Just like "Apocalypse Then", the music for this album was created throughout the year 2006, and is released in december of the same year. And it's an album centered around a theme, too.
You could say, that "Reasonings In Dub" takes off where "Apocalypse Then" left us. The Dub mixing is more intense, loads of vocals everywhere, and there's a larger variety of different styles.
The big difference with "Apocalypse Then" however, is that all of the sixteen tracks on this collection come with vocal parts, and the last track even has full lyrics!
The album kicks off with an upfull steppers, with some toasting to introduce both the album and the artist, as well as the theme. A theme which has to do with deep thinking about mainly spiritual subjects as well as reasoning on Message Boards.
Next up is a triple treat of some more Steppers, increasingly in a more relaxed vibe. Musical Meditations is an up-tempo steppers, JAH Love In Dub comes with some niceness in the form of harmony singing and In The House Of Jah has it's own special kind of vibe.
Roam In This Church is the first of a set of five One Drop style Dubs. It kind of matches with the previous track, and serves a bridge from the Steppers to the One Drops. Topically, "Your Faith Is Their Labour" deals with exactly the same as "Roam In this Church": go to crc.dubroom.org for more information.
Many Message Boards, where people come to reason together, have others come and try to mash up the place with useless insults and so on. In "Internet Language", such people are called "Trolls". And there's a saying: "Don't Feed The Trolls". On an album dealing with reasonings, a DUB for the trolls can't be absent so here it is.
There's no reasoning without talking about the music itself: on the Dubroom Message Boards, for example, there's a lot of lively debate about a wide variety of spiritual topics but allways Reggae Music plays a part as it's the petrol of the engine of our souls... Therefore: the Reason For Reggae.
The fifth and last of the selection of One Drops deals with another serious topic: cokane. Unfortunately, this also happens within circles of Reggae Lovers and it has influenced both the music and the people in a not too positive way.
No man, don't deal with "Insane Cokane".
Better meditate on the things of JAH. Try to find out what the "Word Of JAH" is, for example, by listening to the next one, the first track in a line of Dubs in a more Rub A Dub related style.
Or check out "The Great Dub Debate". A rather heavy Dub with some very strange reverse effects on the vocals. It's followed by "Cybernautic", another riddim in Rub a Dub style with even more vocal transformations.
Next up is "Revelation Of The Mystery": a few lines of singing but the point is clear. The DUB mixing in this one starts to herald what's up next: gradually the intensity of the music is increased again, even to a level beyond the first track.
But first, there's a little more time to contemplate on some of the most serious topics: what are we going to say to JAH on judgement day? "Dub Dis Dat Day" is a future reminder! the music is easy, even comes with some real violins but don't let that fool ya into thinking we are dealing with classical music here. After all, we love Horns too, right?
Right.
Now we enter the final stage of the album, where the last two track include some serious warnings. "Bag O Wire Catch A Fire" is based on a track which was originally played by JAH Roots. The bassline is created by heartical. It's a very intense bassline, as intense of the DUB mixing.
The album closes off with a track in original Messian Dread style: the music is in "Hardcore DUB" style and the chanting over it comes straight out of the heart, revealing the meaning of the name Messian Dread in several levels.
Nuff said. Enjoy!
