Subject: Great Stuff
Good to have some more Mother Hips on the Archive. I'm not sure about the review stating that the Hips are directionless. They like to play good music on that day they did. The Hips had a direction, but they hit some dead ends that didn't work out. They didn't want to be labeled a "jam band", that's why they refused to play High Sierra or Bonnaroo. That's band integrity. Buy some of their DVD's and watch the interviews with Tim and the rest of the band if you want to know more about them what their direction was at that time.
One more thing- my friends and I have been listening to MH for 14 years, and we all have been going to Umphrey's McGee concerts for a couple years. We all love them and "lifeless" is the last word that comes to mind. They are incredible musicians, period.
Anyway, enjoy the download everyone

Subject: Great kinda confused show, great band, thanks God they're back!!!!
Hallelujah! The Hips have come back together as I write this to record their first CD since Green Hills back in '01. I DL'd their CD cover of Neil Young's "Everybody Knows This is Nowhere" from their website, and highly, highly recommend it. It's from a June 2005 show in 'frisco.
I've been a fan of the Hips since I picked up Part-Timer Goes Full a decade ago. While I liked them more as a jamband than an alt-country wannabe (c'mon, Wilco and Railroad Earth have that genre locked up), I was still saddened when the band went on hiatus a few years ago.
So, here in March 2006, I just finished DLing 3-11-06 (HIGHLY recommended), as well as 12-31-05 (also HIGHLY recommended). This show is kind of when the band had lost its direction. '98 and earlier shows were great, but it was obvious by '00 that the Hips didn't know where to go next, and this show (with great audio, BTW) is pretty representative of their lack of direction at the time.
Guys, I am thrilled that you are back! The change from Part-Timer to Shootout lost you a lot of fans, but I love Green Hills (and your cover of Neil...), and I am really anticipating the new CD, due this fall.
Download this for a great example of a band that's rudderless, but still able to put on a great show. I think the Mother Hips were (and now, once everyone's back on board again) ARE the best undiscovered band in the U.S.A. I wish they'd hit High Sierra, Wakarusa, Bonnaroo, etc., and get some high-profile attention. At a time when lifeless bands like Tea Leaf Green, Umphrey's McGee, My Morning Jacket and others are being hailed as "great," it's time for a California rock 'n' soul band to SHOW 'EM WHAT MUSIC IS ALL ABOUT!
So, KICK SOME BUTT GUYS! Welcome back!

Subject: Its about TIME!
Yes, finally some great sounding hips on the arhive. This show sounds GREAT. Please please please bring us more. I really dug the slowed up Opal intro. That song remained quite mellow but still packed a punch. If you havnt checked these guys out yet. YOUR MISSIN OUT!
We really need some kickin stuff from right around when shootout came out. =)
