"'Beacon' comprises works from 2002 to 2003 that are intended to bridge the space between mechanism and music, hypnotic repetition and melody. At first a spacious setting is created in "greeting" and "moon arch" but soon the mechanical is met head-on in "emergency inspection," "children of the deep" and "greppling." Calm waves of melody in "polynesian sunset" are firmly counterpoised by fuzzy repetition in "beacon," bringing machine-sound to the forefront and producing an unsettling mesmerism."
