Lake HolidayLake Holiday - Send Off the Summer EP [MMM019A] (August 3, 2002)

mmm019Acover.jpg
Containing two of the first songs brought to the band by ex-Oval-Teen frontman Bradley Davis, this EP signaled an entirely different direction for ex-Oval-Teen frontman Brad Davis who was letting a few of his softer and twang-ier influences show through while also moving away from the 4-track aesthetic.

This EP is the first in the as yet unfinished "Summer EPs" series. The second EP is available here.

Notes

The Lake Holiday logo in the artwork is based upon a logo from British folk artist Julie Felix’s 1964 self-titled debut on Decca Records. The album was sequenced and edited by Five Seventeen who added a few self-recorded samples, most notably the sample at the end of "Wonder What That Light is?" which features the voice of Kate Warren, who would later play keyboards and introduce cello in later live shows and appear on following releases.

This is the second brief release from Brad Oval-Teen's new band (the first being the split 7" with Poison Control Center). The title track is an excellent Teenage Fanclub/Byrds-ish number with an excellent chorus and melody. It's followed by the equally wonderful and jangly "Shrewsbury Girl", and then the slow and haunting instrumental, "Wonder What That Light Is?". "Daylight Faders" ends the ep on an acoustic note. Let's hope that this 3" cdep is a taster of what's to come, and I hope that whatever it is, comes very soon! MTQ=4/4
