The TidbitsThe Tidbits - Of Geldwen: Tenth Anniversary Edition [MMM026] (November 7, 2004)

mmm026.jpgThe Tidbits were made up of the brother and sister duo of Nancy and James Ogilvie. Hailing from the small town of Erin, Ontario. In 1993, they began making music together and playing shows as the Tidbits of Geldwen, taking their name from a building company logo which adorned a trucker-cap worn by James at each of their shows. In 1994, the duo self-released their first and only cassette: a six-song demo recorded with Rob McLean at the University of Guelph. I picked up the cassette from one of their very few shows and for years it was never far away from my cassette deck. Until the day the cassette broke.

By then it was 1997 and The Tidbits were long broken up. Nancy and James had pursued other interests, joined other bands and The Tidbits were far from their mind. Though I would ask them time and again about permission to reissue it, it was months before the master tape arrived in the mail. James had sent it unannounced and included some alternate mixes, and two unreleased tracks that appeared on the ÂOf Geldwen cassette reissued by My Mean Magpie in 1998. This release includes all but one tracks made under the name the Tidbits (which appears on the My Mean Magpie release Peeler) as well as the Nancy Ogilvie track, ÂAmazing which was slated for inclusion on a never released compilation.

Also, check out these other fine My Mean Magpie Releases.

Subject: lovely!
these were the first songs i downloaded on this computer, which i choose to see as a good omen - kinda like a warm february 23:d. they sorta make me think of beat happening at their most melancholic, but instead of boring me to death half the time they just keep touching me gently. fave tracks so far: matter and ice cream.

Subject: moving stuff!
the second song sounds like a classic.
gotta listen some more for a longer review.
