Subject: 1st time seeing Moe.
Hey all...to Musicalmedication- I just thought I'd give an honest review by a brand spankin newbie to moe.
I am actually a fan of the jamband scene. Great bands, great fans..-what's not to like? I'm a LONGtime head, AB, BC, Phish, Feat fan..among others..
But to me, moe. just doesn't meet the hype. Moe. was probably a decent college band with a loyal following that probably took the logical next step to start touring, etc.
My gripe is that moe. is sooo predictable. It's like they bought a 'jam band kit' at WalMart and used everything in it. I guess the best way to sum it up, is that I don't hear an 'IT' factor. As in, they just don't have 'IT'. Yes, they're talented. Yes, they can play very well. To my ears, there's no 'edge', mystery, or anything that stands out in their music.
But hey, that's just me...On the plus, the fans were gracious and cool, and if moe. floats their boat, all the better.
my $.02...peace

This show has some of the best jams I've ever heard them do. It doesn't always have to be fast
& funky to be good. They don't always have to improvise the jam someplace new. The best jams can follow the routine but do so by flowing to a peak without mistakes. Chuck's solo on Again & Again is so beautiful yet haunting. The end of Yodelittle before it segues into Skrunk is such a thick dark psychedelic space. And the Lost Along the way might be the best live version I've heard.

I thought the show started a little weaker than what I'd want from Moe. but then it started to pick up. Highlights for me would have to be Brent Black.. it was the first Moe. show I've been to that they played Plane Crash so I enjoyed that thoroughly as well. The show was not the best experience for me personally as my overly drunk friend was one of the many "wooo" fans who seemed louder than the band, and having that shouted right by your ear the whole show is not my idea of a fun time, I'm glad the fans were into it but to me fans can ruin the show when they won't shut up long enough to listen to the great tunes being played.
Anyways, I got a question for jboo.. from one music love to the next.. by the sound of your post it seems you're not a fan of moe., phish, or many jam bands for that matter.. I'm wondering then why you'd go to a show, say the musicianship was spot-on, and still be that critical? I'm not trying to attack you btw, I'm honestly curious.. oh and what are some bands you would recommend seeing live? Honest question, for as much as I disagree with your post it was a knowledgeable one.
One love.

hey moeron420brah, if the show was so bad why are they playing the Plane Crash from this show 3X a day on sirius jam on? Sounds like the one that had the bad day was you, not the band.
I would have gone but couldnt make it and listened to the archive version and its definitely a good show.

This was a good show. They played great as usual.
I must say I was expecting a bit more. The first few songs of the night they seemed like they didn't want to be there. I think it was mostly the setlist I was disappointed of because last year's show there was so awesome.

I thought this show was a bit slow at the onset, but really got into it toward the end there. although I am a bit disappointed with the encore.. but loved the Brent Black! BTW, don't fuck with flo? Think I saw that on the setlist for the night before this.. ;)

Just as with the nature of moe.'s music the band must evolve too. Playing the same old songs would get boring. Sticks and Stones was critically acclaimed.

Over the last ten years seeing lots of music I have run into so many kids like you. If your so fucking cool or talented start your own band, brah... I could go on but wont waist my time, brah. Getn over yourself might be a hard thing for you to do but highly suggested. I love when I go to shows no matter what the band is and Im enjoying the show but the fag whos been to 112 shows says something about "good, but I have seen better." Really maybe you should broaden your horizons after seeing any band that much you might become a little redundant. Sounds like an A typical eastcoaster to good for anything. I bet your a yankees fan too... cool brah ....

as my first moe. show, i enjoyed. ive listened to the Understand and roads to home again, and the sound is good.. I wish the show itself brought a larger crowd, but i cant complain. i was definitely impressed, but i really feel i need to see moe more. its always cool to go back and see that you saw a 27 minute Brent black or a 22 minute rebubula, (although these might be normal times for these songs)
all in all it was a fun show to be at, I think.

I had tickets given to me for this show, and I've always had good luck w/ MOE. @ this venue. However MOE. has let me down too many times recently. I've seen close to 100 shows since 1999, and this is their worst year by far!! Crowd's filled w/ custie Dave Matthews types. Valentines day. Saturday night in NYC should be their A game, bringing the fucking heat!! Sticks n' Stones? Lame show! Lame kids! Where's the don't fuck w/ flo? Dr. g? Won't be wasting any more $$$ on MOE! Sad because if I could see anyone at the topr of their game, it's MOE., but they've become too one demensional. Loud's not always better.
