We're delighted to be able to release Finland's idm maestro Planet Boelex's third EP for Monotonik, 'Misplaced', following some enchanting EPs and single releases for netlabels including Ogredung, Aerotone, and Afe Records. Actually, it's arguably the most reflective of the bunch, even including guest vocals and guitar, as Ossi, aka Boelex himself, stretches across ever more expansive, ambient Scandinavian vistas.
The first track out of the gate, 'Only Slightly Distant', showcases a style that's even smoother than normal, all pitter patter in the night, before 'Diciassette Anni', which includes vocals written and performed by Valentina Gualtieri in Italian, drifts rather slinkily into view. Most intriguing of all is probably 'Seadreamers', including acoustic guitar by U.S. musician Travis Nobles (who also provided the cover art for this release), and providing a very different atmosphere for this particular excursion.
Thus, we finish up with 'Last Stone', which we won't leave unturned or unlistened, thanks to a little more signature melodic interplay from Planet Boelex, as his music gets more sophisticated, more chilled, and more enjoyable all at once. Again, we thank him.

Subject: a good example..
..of why the term "IDM" bothers me. IDM has come to gather alot of negative connotations by some of the less educated listeners or listeners with a lesser range of musicial influence and taste. Why? Because alot of it, especially in the early 2000's and late 1990's was accompanied by alot of beat manipulation, dsp tricks, math, and a obfuscated (often humorously so) approach from the musicians.
But, unfortunately, the term IDM has become a catch-all phrase and for anyone to dismiss music simply because this term might be associated with it, simply doesnt know what IDM is. Often people make up for this discreption in their public opinions and personal likings that they'll label something ambient in order to bypass any of the stereotypings.
Planet Boelex here has release a gorgeous, soft, often naive sounding set of songs that is a perfect example of this anti-thesis of what alot of people mistakenly believe to be IDM.
"Misplaced" is one of the better rhyhmic and melodic EPs to be released for quite sometime through a netlabel, and what better place for it than Monotonik? A blissful and melancholic listen that is sure to stay in your headphones or speakers for quite awhile. Highly recommended.

Subject: Balanced and tasteful
Here are four songs that create a rich atmosphere in a short amount of time. Much of the rhythm comes from skillful use of delay, allowing the tracks to get by with just a touch of percussion. No need here to prop up weak material with overbearing beats. Download this for those times you want to just stare at the wall and reflect on stuff like what we are doing here or that girl you never asked out in the 8th grade...

This is, without doubt, one of the finest ÃÂfreeÃÂ albums that has ever come my way. No mistake and no messing, this is out there on its own.
Impressive.

I must say this ep took my speakers away... I've been expecting some excellent stuff from Planet Boelex, but this is something special. Especially the second track with italian vocals. But other tracks are also superb. Guitars take me far far away... A terrific soundscape for uptcoming summer adventures and festivals of electronic music where certain people will perform. Must be played by all means.
