Librivox recording of The Mystery of the Four Fingers by Fred M. White.
Read by J. M. Smallheer.

A fabulously rich gold mine in Mexico is known by the picturesque and mysterious name of The Four Fingers. It originally belonged to an Aztec tribe, and its location is known to one surviving descendant. Surprises, strange and startling, are concealed in every chapter of this completely engrossing detective story. And through it runs the thread of a curious love story. (summary adapted from Grosset & Dunlap Publishers, 1908)

Subject: Story 3 - narrator 5
The only way I got through this mish mosh of confusion was J. M. Smallheer's excellent narration. I really never was able to discern who the main character in this story was. There were too many characters and the plot line was a bit convoluted. I am not sure I can really recommend this story but I can always recommend anything read by Ms. Smallheer! Keep up the wonderful work.

Subject: Pretty good story
The characters are a little confusing, it took me a while to get them all straight, but otherwise the story is good. The hero is out to dinner with a friend when an arch enemy appears in the same restaurant, looking much wealthier than the last time he saw him. More shocking, the man is accompanied by a beautiful woman, who is actually the missing wife of our hero. Quite an interesting start.

The reader is excellent, she always does a nice job with voices and inflections. Overall it is a good book, worth listening to.
