Subject: Night of Technical difficulties
Nice warm up with who turned out the lights and pecan pie. There are a lot of pauses throughout the night due to technical difficulties. Starting after pecan pie with joels pedals. Then the first actual live debut (not counting an afternoon sound-check at an earlier stingers show) of their new unnamed song. This song, and its complex/compound time signature(9/8), is so far above my head, but thats fine with me. The song feels like a prog-rock song of the 70's with nice sax and guitar play.

The funny thing about all the breaks that night is there were supposed to be none at all. No set breaks were planned. Between joel's solo/duo with jake, and the rhythm sections solo abilities, members could take breaks without ever giving the crowd a chance to take one. Unfortunately that is not conveyed through recording. But i look forward to the idea of that. This is the second night for Joel to bring out his new organ too, and this time we had it much more under control.

Its great hearing their two songs paying homage to the Winona area, 61 and Kitchens Cave. Both are awesome and speak the truth about the area, its beautiful. You can hear some local fans (emily) yelling at the end of 61 and very excited at the beginning of Kitchen's Cave. We're proud of the area we have.

The cover of "Ain"t no sunshine when she"s gone" is just utterly beautiful. I"ve listened to that track so many times now. The jam at the end of Kitchens cave rocks and then the sick drums and bass solo which sustains into panzer into koot soup, just rocks. jakes just flows effortlessly on koot. Shredding the whole time. Joel lays down some keys on panzer and Moonlight rider which is a change for the songs. "James" is just so laid back and nice and it was supposed to lead into Joel playing his acoustic. Not sure what was going on with his acoustic but it was definitely not going to work with that sound it was making. We put on some music(Morphine who is so damn good, check them out) and got joel back on his electric for some great versions of wade in the water and masters of war.

Termomother stops early and goes into some space due to the bass guitar just dropping out, which gave us some time to play some more music that we like, the rarely played Talking Heads/David Byrne song Big Business, and then they ease back into Termomother. Not sure what happened to it, but the bass just stopped coming through his amp, possibly a chord. But it slowed the energy of the crowd down but it picks up well by the end of the show. After Termomother they go into the bass solo Amerika by Jaco Patorious, one of the best bass players of all time and pioneer of playing harmonics on the bass, then into a great rendition of Your Mother is an Astronaut.

The fast paced I Just love the Batter into the epic Beginnings is great. Just look at the length of that song, its ridiculous. Great work NWB. The whole song rocks but the last 10 minutes or so is sick.

Old Bakers Field Blues is nice and laid back, the organ adds a nice touch, but its part has to be worked out still. Song for the (W)'s jam in the middle really leaves things open to explore new areas, some really cool possibilities with this one. Song for the K.O. is a nice upbeat song as always. Then Tso's closes the night with some high-energy for the hometown crowd. Overall a very-good night except for the technical difficulties which were out of our control, but thats why i gave it four stars. Stino did a great job with the mix. The performance was great, but the breaks just slow it down so much. Just imagine this without all the breaks and you could see that this would have been an unbelievable show.
