This movie is a comforting imaginary trip back to small-town American life as I comprehended it, growing up shortly after this film was made.
Most all of the Jam-Handy productions are of interest for their period footage and unusual industrial specialty topics; this one is just plain fun to watch repeatedly.

This is one of the films I like, a voyage to simpler, trusting times.
Having watched some of the silent home movie footage taken during the Great Depression (also on this site), I noticed that people rarely frowned or got angry at the cameraman. They all smiled and waved hello. America has not only changed but has "been changed" by debatable forces that are destroying freedom of speech, the press, and the middle class. People are separated and privacy paranoid, angry at anyone who disagrees with them.
A nice thread in many of Handy's films is an optimistic sense of America's greatness, without getting heavy and "meaningful". This film is a fun watch, along with others like Safe Roads, Wreckless, Behind the Bright Lights, etc.
I somehow don't feel that these films are as much a tool of GM Propagana as some think. Of course, being sponsored would mean mention of the product, but here not at the expense of the storyline or content. Well, enough defending it. I just like the notion that happiness is contagious and this film voices that idea especially well.

Pretty creepy expose starring Victor Mclaglen about a cop who, because he was friendly to one motorist, starts a chain reaction and then everyone passes the friendliness around, soon the whole town is just so gosh darned friendly! If you believe that this could happen in your town, well, here's a 1950's happiness pill for you too.

O'Mara wakes with inflammation of the larynx and can't yell at a guy for stopping 2-inches into the crosswalk. Somehow this "laryngitis miracle" spurs on a town to be nice to people so that they'll will buy products. GM propaganda / trianing film.

The ways in which Jam Handy can hype Chevy's never cease to amaze. In this film, short tempered traffic cop O'Mara doesn't explode at the service station guy that stops in the crosswalk (in his brand new convertable Chevy), so the service station guy is nice to a customer (in a Chevy), who then treats his customers nicely... and so on and so on... and of course it ends up at the Chevy dealer! And they all lived happily ever after!
