Subject: Pronunciations hurt a great book
This is a wonderful story of an early settler of the Oregon and Washington Territories. Sadly, the volunteer readers have not bothered to become acquainted with the proper pronunciations of most of the place names. From Puyallup (pew-al-ip) to Whidbey (Wood-be) Island, from Whatcom (Watt-cum) to Steilacoom (Still-a-cum) it's all ghastly. It is true that these are difficult words, mostly Salish written by English writers who had no formal spelling rules to guide them in English or Salish.

However, if i wanted to know how to say Reading, Pa. or La Jolla, California. It would not be hard to find out.
