I love this show. This year I've been doing a listening project of all the sets from the Summer Sessions tour. This has long been a favorite Phil show in general but I may have to call it my favorite of the tour. It's one of the jammier shows of the tour, the excellent 25 minute Dark Star opener shows that clearly they weren't messing around. The Favorite Things and second Dark Star sequence is prime stuff. There's a really pretty sequence where they sort of tease Eyes for a minute or two before going into a pretty peppy version with Kang in command. GDTRFB is inspired and transitions nicely into AWBYG. For some weird reason I have a soft spot for the Tom Thumb encore. Love this set, I listen to it every year and would definitely recommend.
There's one thing I've noticed on this tour, there's some missed cue flubs here and there and some transitions that aren't always smooth. To be expected at any Dead show, let alone a new band.
The recording is absolutely beautiful. One of those ones you could pass off as a board. Probably my favorite recording of the tour, even more than the near perfect FOB source from the following night. Performance, setlist, recording, 5 stars all around from me.
