Subject: Comos lips
It was a big joke back at that time that it was said that Perry Como never moved his lips while talking or singing, but its clearly obvious that he does, so i wonder how that got started, i do recall that Dean Martin used to make fun of Como about that.

Subject: Perry Como was so smooth, so good
He had such talent. I don't think there is a man who wouldn't want to emulate him. Unlike the young screamers of today Perry seemed so under self control. Besides being a great singer and host I noticed that Perry gave recognition to other singers. He appreciated a good song and we appreciated him.

Como is very underrated and I have to say I didnt realize how good he was until I watched this. Ive always liked him but this show makes him even more appealing. He seemed so down to earth and real. Very relaxed atmosphere and feeling with the show. The songs are great and its really special to see Peggy Lee! Como was a doll. 5 big ***** and thank you so much for posting this!

Seriously, The King of easy listening is in good form here, singing in his lovely, underrated style. There is a very relaxed atmosphere to this series.

Anyway, This is a good episode, With Perry Como singing a delightful LIVE version of "Papa Loves Mambo", and he also sings some other relaxing songs. He was a very popular singer back in the 50's, and he continued to release popular albums into the 70's. He sang easy listening songs that mangaged to be relaxing without being elevator music. I have several of his LPs, They are well worth a listen if you enjoy his music. The cigarette commercials are a bit embarrassing today, But they have historic value and we must remember this was before the dangers of smoking were known (Plus, The commercials are aimed at adults, not children). Overall, Well worth watching for those who want to see what TV was like back then, and I'm glad that this broadcast is Public Domain, so people can watch it instead of it decomposing in the CBS film archive.
