Simply put, the homage to Aphex Twin's brand of ambient served up on the AmbArch2 platter is a fitting salute to the genius of the British moor- lands.
At first, the "tributary" quality of this music, in relation to R.D. James' earlier ambient works, seemed a little too great... However, thankfully, the novelty of these new compositions grew clearer.
I far prefer this sort of ambient that is able to sink into the background, yet still impress when given enough attention to notice what is actually happening, to the more "meaty, beaty" manifesta- tions that have grown up in the wake of ambient's earlier, quieter phase.
