The wind is blowing from a very different direction with Phonocake's latest release: Disrupt transfers classic reggae music to contemporary media, thus producing reggae with the help of digital tools - laptop dub plates, so to speak.
You could call the sounds developing from that mixture spherically electronic. All four tracks are very dubby, three of them are constructed on traditional riddims, as is usual - and even essential - in reggae music. The influences of digital elements turn the tracks into an interesting experience, adding a certain disruption (ahem) to the
calm atmosphere, which is rather common in reggae and dub music.
"Argument" is very catchy and highly contagious, the resounding voice samples, the good-humored synthesizer, at times reminding of 8bit music, and the underlying riddim have the potential to convince even the worst-spirited person to tap their feet.

I was kinda bummed, I had hoped for more from the description. but when i tried the m3u file for streaming the work, I only had two tracks (instead of the advertised 4) and they played in succession, without control of choosing one track or another to play first. Slightly jarring elect. noise at first, but overall a fun western-themed dub. It could have been done better though.

A great meld of electronic techniques and Jamaican rythms that was meant to happen. Jarring glitch beats clash with deep reggae basslines and Tubby-like spaced-out vocals and timely synth lines tie it all together. Track 1 is a little too haphazard, but the descending synth line on "Holy Mount Zion" sinks into the rythym in a sublime way. Check it out if you have a taste for reggae flavor.

Me & my friends really enjoyed listening to your weird but ass- kicking sounds during the last nights and we played some of your music to the Dresden audience; they were very pleased.
Go on and continue producing such stuff.
Thanx...
