"Stella by Starlight" features visualization software synching up a sequence of loops siphoned from Ralph Steiner's aquatic morph-fest, "H20" (1929), with this lovely interstellar version of "Stella by Starlight" from the Frank Comstock's Project album, Music from Outer Space (1962).
"It's a Psych-Out!" is an outlet for music videos that I have generated through the automated synchronization of databases of audio and video sources. Many media blogs celebrate the blogger's collection, and my project is no exception, exploring my eclectic music collection as well as my library of odd, often kitschy video. The goal of the project is to draw myself and audience into automatic systems of media production that can foster imaginative experiences.
"It's a Psych-Out!" celebrates the personal aspects of an expanded cinema in the digital era, which is a cinema where both the means of production and modes of distribution break out of commercial studio frameworks and align with new prosumer tools of creation and Web-based channels for exhibition.
The project has received international reviews, local coverage in the Denver Post, and was accepted into the “iDEAs 06: Works in Process,” a juried exhibition that coincided with the 4th Annual Conference of the International Digital Media and Arts Association, November 9-11, 2006.
