Subject: Dreaming about the Dream Palace
The Radiators played at the Dream Palace a lot, so I may or may not have been in the audience for this show. The Dream Palace was on the outskirts of the French Quarter in the Faubourg Marigny on Frenchman Street. The front room of the bar featured a great ceiling painting of clouds and sky. Bands played in a larger back room that was pretty dark and crowded. Today this building houses The Blue Nile club which sustained some Katrina damage, but vows to reopen.
This show has a really strong song listing full of typical Radiators standards from the classic Work Done On Premise and Heat Generation LPs. It has the two landmark Little Feat songs Dixie Chicken and Spanish Moon which fit the Radiators groove like a glove. It also has The House Of Blue Lights, a crowd favorite that never made it to an official recording. Theres really not a weak song in the 28 included here.
The performances are first rate except for some throat problems by singer David Malone, he even apologizes for it before one song. He mustve soaked it in alcohol between songs, because its only noticeable in a handful of songs.
The three sets contain just over 134 minutes of songs. You can record the songs in order ending after Lowlife for a 78 minute CD, and then continue in order for a 56 minute second CD. With a little work you can fit all the songs on three 45 minute cassette sides, too!
The sound quality is fine. Im glad this early show is available. This show is borderline five stars, but due to the strong song list and the historic nature of this recording, Im rating it five stars. I highly recommend it.

Subject: great old show!
Subject: great old show!
Some serious swamp-style rockin' going on in this classic old show from the Radiator's early days. The amazing rapport between these gifted musicians is apparent even in this early outing. There's some great rock here, some great blues and some great boogie. All-in-all, a very fun show.
The recording quality is decent, although there seems to be some level adjustments early on, and the cuts are a little annoying. Still, for a show this old, it's not bad at all.
Side note: this show easily fits on 2 CDs if you split it after Automatic. (Or, if you have 80min CDs, you can split after Low Life, which is right in the middle of a cut, which I think I prefer.)
