The GAMH is a great venue, as anyone who has been there will tell you. And to discover that the Rads played an acoustic show there, well, it just fills my heart with jealousy, because I wasn't there!

The Rads are, at heart, an electric band, but their occasional acoustic shows are very fine, and all the more enjoyable for their rarity. This one is no exception. I could wish it had a few more rockers or hard-blues numbers for Camile and Dave to show off their chops on, and the boys do get a little sloppy here and there during the show, but Zeke's singing and playing is wonderful throughout. I was particularly pleased to hear the fine arrangement of the Band's Strawberry Wine, the soulful version of Stevie Wonder's Mistra Know-It-All, and the unexpected and unusual acoustic version of the Stones' 2000 Light Years from Home. And, and, hmm, let's just say, it's not their greatest show ever, but it's a darn good one, it's got a lot of highlights, and is well worth a listen.

Notes

* Camile playing a national steel guitar. Also for the entire 2nd set.
