Subject: Steve, Bob and Rich...and Pat!
As Bob so eloquently puts it: the band will be called the Rainmakers from now on and he doesn't want to hear any shit about it!

You can just about picture the rainclouds gathering to the powerful mantra of the rockin' Kansas boys as the early rumblings of the RM legend stir the air. With the debut album set to hit the recordstores and their unerring ability to conquer the battlefield of any stage the band brims with confidence and it seems clear that great things are in the making!

It seems hard to grasp the fact that it's been almost 20 years since this concert took place, and despite its old age it sounds remarkably fresh to these ears. A very appropriate first outing in this most welcome remaster project!

Hats off to mr. Jochim for taking the time and effort to ensure that the legendary performances of the Rainmakers are preserved and presented in such a fantastic way! This is the kind of music that is truly timeless and should be required listening for anyone with an interest in real music. It doesn't get much better than the sound these Kansas guys created :-)

Subject: great quality
Here is another must hear. I've had access to this show for many years (thanks Mark). The quality is terrific! The band rocks from start to finish. Dito to all that Stian said. You took the words right out of my mouth. Great job Mark! Bryan

Subject: Essential recording!
Thanks for making this pivotal recording available, Mark! This is the show where the band announce they're changing their name to The RM, and it is performed mere days before the release of their major label debut. You can tell the guys are excited about what's happening with their collective careers. Huge amounts of enthusiasm and fresh playing all 'round. A wise choice for RMRP01. And the bonus radio interview is an excellent addition, worth the download in itself.

mmmm...Steve, Bob and Rich EXCELLENT!! Thank you for this, and pretty good sounding for cassette tape sources! I don't think I ever saw the Rainmakers, but I saw Steve, Bob, and Rich many times in the KC/Lawrence area

Subject: RMRP-01: First Release of Rainmakers Remaster Project
This first offering in the new remastered-shows series (of a projected total of 38) derives from two edited versions of the concert -- originally broadcast on KCUR-FM in June and July 1986. It represents the most complete version of the show, apart from what may reside in the radio station's archives.

Complete details about this show can be found at http://www.mjochim.com/rainmakers/remasters/intro.html or by joining the RainmakersRemasters Yahoo group. Unfortunately, the text-file uploaded with the show seems to have had all the line-breaks removed so is very difficult to read.

The show itself is representative of the period right before the release of the band's debut album. They were billed as "Steve, Bob & Rich" at Parody Hall for this show, but Pat had joined the previous December and they had already decided on the name-change to The Rainmakers. They were still doing many of the old SB&R songs at the time, as well as several that wouldn't be released until 1987's "Tornado."

The sound-quality is pretty good considering the age of the master tape used for the majority. A new transcription from the masters was used rather than my original 1999 transcription. Still, it's a bit hissy (which sounded more natural than an earlier version after denoising) and some of the peaks were clipped. The show does offer a fine representation of what the band were like in those halycion days (and is one of only two 1986 concert recordings of The Rainmakers).

I hope you enjoy it -- and join us for more discussion in the Yahoo group (which will offer the show as a vine for those who can't download).
