Update: 8/1/2005 - removed policy references that asked us to disallow Soundboard tapes. Band rep, Brian Lee wrote: "I would allow them from anyone. If someone has a soundboard tape, we've almost definitely allowed them to produce it."

Taping Policy
Audience taping of rane performances and performances by individual members
of rane is permitted. Guest performances by band members with other artists
will be governed by that artist's policy. When rane is performing at a
festival or other event featuring multiple bands, that particular event's
policy may override this policy. All taping is limited to audio.
All tapers must consult with Brendan Twitchell, sound engineer and road
manager for rane, regarding placement and amount of equipment, prior to
setting up any equipment. Excessive amounts of equipment and/or obtrusive
placement of it will not be permitted.
The audience enjoyment of a concert takes precedence over recording
efforts. This means that at no time should tapers ever require other
patrons to be quiet or otherwise interfere with audience enjoyment.
rane reserves the right to confiscate the tapes of anyone in violation of
the above policy and/or eject them from the venue.
Distribution and Trading Policy
All participants in sound recording exchange (regardless of format)
acknowledge the exclusive copyright to the music and performances by the
performers, writers and publishers.
All taping must be for personal use only. This includes trading for an
equivalent amount of similar media. Regardless of any expenses incurred, no
money may ever be exchanged as a part of a trade. However, postage or blank
media may be exchanged to facilitate the transfer of recorded performances.
The media by which audio trading is publicized may not be commercialized.
Therefore, newsletters, websites, clubs, or any other communication forum
facilitating audio trading cannot accept advertising, offer links for
compensation, exploit databases compiled from their traffic, or otherwise
derive any commercial profit in any form. Stores or businesses may not
offer to duplicate rane media or sell or otherwise provide media containing
unreleased rane music for any price. A statement of compliance with this
policy must be clearly posted on all web sites engaged in trading activity.
If we have chosen to offer for sale via any media a particular rane
performance, this "official" version will take precedence over amateur
recordings being offered for download or trade. In these instances, we
require that all digital audio repositories remove any recording of these
particular performances from their collections and all trading of that
performance be discontinued within 3 days of the official release or 3 days
of rane announcing the intention to release, whichever is earlier.
rane further reserves the right to require immediate removal and prohibit
trading of any unreleased rane material. In no case may any officially
released rane recording (live or studio) be duplicated or otherwise traded
or offered. Any broadcast of unreleased RANE recording recordings is only
permissible if it conforms to all the guidelines applicable to other forms
of duplication.
Audience taping at rane concerts is authorized for noncommercial purposes
only. Unauthorized sale, duplication and/or distribution is strictly
forbidden. All rane performances and recordings are the exclusive property
of rane. All rights reserved The rights to record rane performances set
forth in this policy constitute an express, revocable license. We reserve
the right to withdraw our sanction of recording, tape trading and/or
noncommercial digital audio file transfers on a case specific basis or in
general, as we deem necessary. No waiver of any copyright or trademark
right is intended.
