Boston Public Library (Rare Books Department) copy cataloged under call no. G.3940.17 quarterbound in red leather and brown paper. The armorial bookplate of the Barton Library is present on the front pastedown. A presentation inscription from the author to Lord Thurlow, dated Dec., 1814, is present on the recto of the front free endpaper. A slip with binder's instructions, in the hand of T.P. Barton, is present on the verso of the same leaf. Tipped in before the title page is a letter from Britton, dated Jan. 15, 1812 regarding his ability to send the recipient illustrations pertaining to the Antiquities of Essex. The letter is addressed to "Crown Rd., Esq.[?]"
Boston Public Library (Rare Books Department) copy cataloged under call no. G.3940.18 halfbound in black leather and papier tourniquet. The armorial bookplate of the Barton Library is present on the front pastedown and an engraved bookplate showing two swordsmen attacking cannon on a hilltop, signed with the initials TI[?] is present on the recto of the front free endpaper. Bound-in at the front of this copy are numerous notes, primarily in Britton's own hand, relating to Shakespeare and Shakespeariana, including notes on the editions of Malone and others, Shakespearian portraiture, a list of people to whom Britton gave copies of Remarks on the life and writings of William Shakspeare, and an annotated page from the catalog of the Waldron sale (May, 1818). The text itself is heavily annotated in Britton's hand, and various clippings, notes, pieces of correspondence, and pages from other books and auction catalogs are affixed to the interleaving pages and endpapers
