Funny, the audio sounds excellent!

The singing was my least favorite. I know she may be talented, but im not that crazy about
woman singers. The music is worth getting along.

The vibe was sensational...original Deadheads to kids about 13 years old; all jammin, smiling, dancing and just lovin' life.

Subject: This is the best show of the tour...
There were 3 gigs in Ohio alone, and this one was the most exploratory. Billy K broke out a new song, then Kimock was allowed the only "It's Up To You" of the tour. I know there is a 10.24.06 SBD from Chicago out there, maybe I have it, but like I was saying the other two Ohio shows-Cleveland & Columbus were mirror images of themselves. Basically the same show. Look for a DVD of this tour to be released from GDP and/or Rhino, whomever is in control in 2008. And I don't know if it will happen, but a band member slipped up and said they will ride again in 2008-we'll see. Nothing is written in stone, and I'd love to see Kimock with Billy K again, but I'm not gonna hold my breath.(FWIW it wasn't either of them that slipped up). Thanks enjoy this show as it's out of the ordinary from the rest of this tour. They get to stretch out a bit here, which is really nice, I wish they weren't on such a tight leash the rest of the shows. Thanks for this recording. Peace through Music. this isn't even as close to as bad as these guys want you to think it is. if you stop screaming about the vocals and listen to the jams you might realize the rest of the band plays really well, even if you dont like the singing

Re : Donna Jean. Her singing has been described as "banshee wailing", which is quite fitting for her backing vocals. Guess the problem in the 70s was that Bob and Jerry just did not let her enough room as a lead singer, even on the new material of those years. As a lead singer I find Donna quite OK (though not the best singer in the world) but her backing vocals with the Dead were both irrelevant and irritating. Get PITB from 05/14/74 for one choice example.

Now Jen. I have a couple of the Devils' shows of 2006 and I find Jen really up to the task. perhaps a bit shaky in the early gigs but she quickly knew her way round the tunes, new and old alike. In fact the one 2006 gig I have problems with is the Warfield gig with Weir.... "Control Freak" Bob even manages to wreck "The other one" on that night with his singing. Plus the middle section jam leading nowhere for what seems to be the whole night....

Hoping to see lots of other Devils or Planet Drum shows uploaded here soon.

Happy 2007 to Mickey and Bill ;-)

Subject: Jen Durkin Singing Off Key?
Has anyone every heard Donna singing with the Dead? Now that is off key singing if I every hear off key singing! This show is not a bad one at all. I just heard 12/1/06 from the Warfield and hope it ends up here soon!

From what I heard, the singer dropped out and Jen was contacted about the tour just 3wks prior to the first show and only had ONE WEEK to rehearse with the band. Regardless if you like her or not she had the courage to accept this very difficult assignment knowing that not everyone would accept her.

She did a great job with the short time she had. Yes she has some scary moments but, that is what you do when you are a performer.. take the good with the bad!!

Give her a break.. I am sure she was not happy with all of her performances just like the fans but she did her best and that is all that Mickey and Bill probably asked of her.

I give Her 4 stars for having the guts to stand up on stage with those legends and doing her very best for each and every show of the tour!!

Subject: not bad
I was supposed to be at this show but had to work my friends got back from the show and said it was just terrible this chick singer just ruined for us. I just listened to it and sure Jen is not exactly a perfect fit but its not as bad as I originally expected. for the record Van Morrison is not dead he's touring in february and I think he would be flattered for these amazing musicians to cover his song. but the recording isn't that great its a little quiet which is why I am giving it three stars

What is up with all this slander? It's time to stop the B.S. These artists are putting their lives on the line to create awesome music. One grows by being put on the spot and doing it. If you don't like the environment and misgivings of the live arena, listen to some studio tapes. Durkin will become great with this ensemble through experience; if they stick together, she'll grow into the part and it will be fine.

I'd like to see you get up and join that band. Every time you cast a stone at someone else, you're weakening your own spirit. If you don't have the strength tho appreciate others, then you're just plain weak. If you don't think you've got the strength to appreciate others, then create the strength. Rather than bitch that the artists your following aren't doing it for you, why not do something fulfilling for yourself that makes someone else happy. Then you'll see how hard it really it.

Subject: durkin sucks
Durkin sucks. Deep Banana black out is boring. Bring back the original singers from gathering of the vibes. She completly botched Fire On The Mountain at Vegooose. That alone should be enough too kick her ass out. why waste such a amazing band on some screachy singer?

Subject: This band is incredible!!
This show kick ass! Hard to Handle? It's up to You? Sickness. I think that Jen Durkin is great for this band. I could do with slightly more jamming and slightly less vocals, but hey, wtf. I caught the Vegoose show and the Warfield show which were also stellar (except for the tech. difficulties and Bobby trying to control the show at the Warfield).

Subject: Why??
Why oh why would a great bunch of consumate musicians ruin their sound by adding overrated screamer Jen Durkin? I saw the Devils at the Gathering of the Vibes and their vocalists were awesome- why ruin that by fishing in the shallow end of the pool for a "name" vocalist?

Unbelievably smart move by Billy and Mickey when they added Kimock and Gordon to the band. Unbelievably stupid move adding Durkin- she's way too willing to spoil the beautiful sound of the real musicians with her third-rate off key singing. Van Morrison is rolling over in his...oh wait....

After listening to this show I felt almost cheated. Is there any way to airbrush her out?

Seriously, I went from being ecstatic over the sound of the Devils to being completely disappointed. I would not go to see them again if Durkin was in the line up.

Subject: Refreshing
I have to say that I have been excited to hear some RD for a while. Reading Hunter's journal has kept me quite intrigued. Well the wait is over and I am very happy. The cover of "Into the Mystic" to start the 2nd set is fantastic. Jen's voice is very calming. This show gets a 5 for being the first.
