Subject: yes, yes....
I thought I'd written a review years ago for this event....
While in personal attendance I interpreted the show to be a gem, the whole scene made the music more concentrated. The beautful sun set that night @ 9:10pm, dope weather, friends and frendly strangers, imagery, and the beats. I feel that all allowed the improv to breathe with extra level freedom. yes, yes. As a practicing photographer in AND writing this in San Francisco center I can still feel the resonnance of that evening.
Possibly the players of SCHA felt a similar creative bubble to rest on for this evening. kudos for the AUD, and the video. blessings for making this art so readly avalible for us own.

Subject: Sound quality?!?!?
I don't know how much better a show could possibly sound. This recording is amazing...as is the band.
I highly recommend this show.

Subject: Amazing recording of a fantastic show
For those not yet familiar with the band, or those who have basked in their improv glory, you're in for a treat. The Santa Cruz Hemp AllStars are now in the Internet Archive, and all their shows are available.
Santa Cruz Hemp AllStars is not a regular band, but rather a gathering of musicians, feeding off the energy in the crowd, and producing waves of inspired, improvised goodness.
The group first performed in summer 2001, as an impropmtu "after-party" for the Santa Cruz Hemp Expo (hence the name). Palookaville manager Poco Marshall brought together some of our best local jam musicians, along with some talented new arrivals to the Santa Cruz area. Bringing together members of the bands Sound Tribe Sector 9, Disco Biscuits, Estradasphere, and Netwerk:Electric to create a unique musical experience.
With no songs and no rehearsals, one might fear the worst. But when the Hemp AllStars hit the stage, magic is created.
This recording is from the fourth Santa Cruz Hemp AllStars gig, in San Francisco. The show was filmed for an episode of GrooveTV, also available for download from the Internet Archive. It features a new addition to the group: bassist Arne Livingston from . Our friends at the Bay Recorders Organization really put in their all to create a top-notch recording, running multitrack to hard disk. This "audience matrix" recording is a balanced mix of Schoeps and AKG tube mics, and sounds amazing.
