Easy 5 star sound quality. As if it weren't obvious they knew what they were doing by now! This capture, perhaps, is better than the following night.
Pleasant Bad Hair to open. They find a groove towards the end (around the 12:00 mark?) that I wish they would have explored, but it was not to be. Avalon smokes! I don't think they could have played this poorly in Dec '02 if they tried. Samba features a great solo by Mitch although trying to get out of it he hits a few bumps. I can't tell if Steve flubs the beginning of Moon or if he is just being playful - I'll give him the benfit of the doubt.
AJ's bass solo at the front of Ice Cream is short, sweet, and to the point. Ice Cream itself, although I wouldn't classify it as a toaster, is a great collective effort. Thing One is probably my personal favorite of the set with its Not Fade Away "ish" ending. Mitch goes berzerk on Tangled Hangers, and Rainbow's is an excellent closer giving AJ the chance to breath once more before the four winds take over.
Pretty much every composition in the SKB catalog at this time gets the snot kicked out of it during this 4 night run - except Cole's Law. They aren't so much poor as they are underplayed and unexamined (although I would choose this version over 12/6 if I had to). Interesting placement of the Cole's in this show as well.
Sound A(+) Playing B+

Sweet Bad Hair to open, goes some interesting places very far from the main theme.
Bad ass ragin' Avalon!!!
Sounds great as you would expect from the SKB crew's stage tapes. Nice balance between Steve on left and Mitch on right.
Worth a listen for sure.
