Who is DJ Shield you ask? An unknown electro-soldier from the Deep South, DJ Shield does for experimental/electronic/improv underground what DJ Shadow did for funk 45s and old school hip hop. Although this artist works exclusively with samples of pre-recorded music, you'd be hard-pressed to discern that from the organic nature of this release. Some of the samples sound like Evan Parker, Blackalicious, Radian thrown in with some Tuvan throat singing, kotos, shakuhachi, etc. but we can only guess You can try out an excerpt for yourself or download the entire thing.

Subject: Low down dirty.
There's just no way to say it. The touch is there, soft like his favorite kitten and hard like a fist breaking glass. Wait until everyone else starts copying his style.

DJ Shield is one artist I've never heard of before, but will surely follow on by now. The two "Midnight" Versions are walking between solid DJ Shadow inspired downbeats tales, merged with lose trippy Jazz saxes, mysterious voices, field recordings. Sometimes japanese, sometimes Krautrock, always surprising, and therefore
highly recommendable. Check it out!
