In all seriousness, the Fan Dance is really quite lovely and tastefully done. I give the Fan Dance alone 5 stars. Classy.

Interesting collection of different clips of 'famous' dancers (read: strippers). You could tell which ones were the classy ones and which ones were just, um, cheap. There are some great moments here actually, the Ginger Rogers imitator is just great, with her Ginger-like moves and her um, not-Ginger-Like moves, the fanny dance is quite beautiful, and some of the staging is quite spectacular. On the opposite end, I feel for a woman like 'Rose La Rose', who winds up dancing in someone's bar room.

A selection of Âexotic dancers perform on an assortment of stages. For the most part, the dancers are filmed below eye level, presumably so that the men in the movie audience could experience the sensation of being in an actual burlesque theater. However, ÂCarlotta, A Hot Tamale from South of the Border, is shot at eye level, with the interesting addition of a crowd of men seen from behind. Strangely, theyÂre all wearing fedoras. Maybe itÂs to hide their identities. The male audience sinks into anonymity as the women reveal themselves.

Seen today, the dances have an innocent quality and a certain dated charm. All of the dancers do pretty much the same thing, except for the large feathers used by ÂCarmelita and Her Famous Fan. The women move mechanically through their routines with fixed smiles on their faces. To their audience, they were objects of fantasy, but to them it was just a job.
