This set has been one of my staple go-to's for years, particularly because Zach Sheeran records amazing tapes, and there's a super FIRE improv featuring Gary "El Buho" Gazaway on trumpet (#6).
So a funny little story about this recording: in 2006 we're flying to Wakarusa to see STS9, and I'm playing this very set in the shuttle, explaining how dope it is and who "El Buho" is. And my friends are like, "El Buho is Amerigo's dad". (Amerigo is someone I went to high school with). I quickly correct them, stating, "This is Gary 'El Buho' Gazaway" and they go, "Amerigo Gazaway".
So years later through befriending his son Amerigo (OG homie y'all check his tunes out), I got to meet El Buho and he told me this crazy story how STS9 started out as his backing band, and how he told them they should find a percussionist and start a band...
Now it's 2022 and I'm here because El Buho's website recently crashed and I'm helping with a redesign, and the first thing I thought he should do was share a link to this awesome show. So if you happen to stumble upon this set, do yourself a favor and give a listen to track 6!!! (Fire emoji)
PS: Anything recorded by Zach Sheeran should be in your collection...

Bravo on this recording-- and thank you for sharing it!
Highly recommended show from a year that the band could really do no wrong. Very patient, spiritual, exploritory, and intricate playing. The last of STS9's glory years ('01-'04) in my opinion. Pick this up if you need a break from the new uber-electro sound.

Wow, nice show right out of gate. One minute into Monkey Music you know it's going to be a great show. Great sounding recording as well. Everything is just as it should be. A big thanks to the taper and the archive.

Sounds great...I missed this one to secure good camping at the Mish. Dammit. Oh well, thanks for getting it up so I can hear the incredible music from that night. Many thanks.
sanphran are you on a Mac? Sometimes I have the same problem. You can get around it by converting to .wav instead of .aiff. Toast will burn either. Straighten it out, come back, and change your star rating. The rating is for performance and sound quality, not your computer skills. Thanks!
Just wanted to add that the improv with El Buho is some really special shit. Just outstanding. Worth the download for that alone!!

The tribe layin' it down like the scientists of sound they truly are. Striaght heat from the get-go. They may have earned their PhD here tonight!
