Very good quality upload, though the print has some annoying splices at times.
My rating is closer to 3.5/5. To me, this is the ideal film for watching when tired and bored. I did find the accent of the rich boyfriend to be a bit odd though.
Per the "The End" thing at the end, this print was made for TV. Out of boredom, a search of New York City TV schedules show that NYC TV showed it at least the following times during the 1950s:
6 June 1950, WPIX, 7:30PM (as part of "Four Star Theater". No relation to the classy anthology series "Four Star Playhouse", which hadn't debuted yet)
15 August 1950, WPIX, 12:00AM (as part of "Night Owl Theater")
20 October 1950, WATV, 11:00PM (as part of "Stardust Theatre")
6 June 1951, WATV, 8:15PM
1 July 1951, WPIX, 7:15PM
18 March 1952, WATV, 11:15PM
26 March 1952, WPIX, 1:00PM
15 June 1952, WNBT, 10:00AM
26 August 1952, WATV, 12:30PM
11 March 1953, WNBT, 1:00PM (as part of "Channel 4 Theater")
I give credit to long-forgotten station WATV, whose 6 June 1951 and 18 March 1952 telecasts showed the film in a 75-minute time-slot.
A lot of broadcasts of the film in a short amount of time, then it just stops. I wonder why.
These cheap b-movies by studios like Monogram played a big part of the early TV schedules, though the presentations of the films were less-than-ideal. They usually showed up during daytime or late-night, though indie stations like WATV and WPIX saw fit to put them in prime-time.

Subject: Decent movie similar to "Alice Adams"
Subject: Decent movie similar to "Alice Adams"
The plot of this movie is somewhat similar to "Alice Adams," with Katharine Hepburn. There's a father who is given scant respect by most members of his family, except one child. They're constantly nagging him to make more money, stand up for himself, etc. (There are also some W.C. Fields movies along the same lines.)
Then there's a romantic side to the story, in the form of a daughter who has a young suitor but is beguiled by an older city slicker.
In the end the father, aided by the young suitor, "makes good" in an unexpected way.The daughter is saved from the clutches of the slicker, and peace and harmony are restored.
I liked it. It's sort of a low-key movie without a lot of fireworks, but I liked the people, the story, and the movie.

Subject: So so
Subject: So so
Why was everyone mean to Dad, but then suddenly the son is nice. Like the writers decided to change the character but keep the what they already shot.
There are few inconsistancies like that, the movie makers seemed to have many reconsiderations.
It could be a good movie but it isn't, it's an after thought.
