WalkmanDraumar Um Kalt Sumar (June 18, 2006)

Draumar Um Kalt Sumar - in a wonderful Icelandic language means Dreams About Cold Summer. If to be sincere we don't really know why we are dreaming about cold summer...It might be because it is unusual but still very beautiful - same as Iceland itself. In spite of the fact that none of us has ever been to Iceland we are felling unaccountable admiration towards this small, cold and mean island. We are so crazy about it that we even decided to dedicate our latest release to it. That is why its name is in Icelandic language (thanks to Steini). That is why its gallery is full of exceptional Icelandic scenery. That is why this music is full of those feelings that will tell you about this wonderland. About its clear, cold sky and unordinary lines of its landscape. We want to sincerely thank all of you who helped us in turning this idea into a little miracle. We also would like to thank all of you who were not afraid of waiting for so long.

We hope that you will feel like standing under the cold sky of Iceland at least for a moment while listening to this compilation. That would be more than enough for us...

Maximus P's review was just about spot on. I was listening to track 9 and got lost in the soundscape.

Subject: wonderful!
Every track is good, with lots of variety but never a huge swing in the mood the disc, as a whole, creates... highly recommended!
Every track has maturity, depth, and is a head above much of the netlabel world... I look forward to exploring every release on this label!
Track 9 really made my ears perk up--it is unusual, sort of the sound you hear when you're at a party/club and you can hear the music from each room playing together- sometimes it's chaos, sometimes it's magic- this time it's the latter- Unit 21 is a genius of sound scuplture!

Subject: Darn near perfect
This is a wonderful compilation of otherworldly IDM/ambient electronica inspired by the summer sky in Iceland. I've never been to Iceland, but if it's anything like the visions and feelings these tracks inspire in me, then I surely need to go there. In particular, the first five tracks on this album are about as close to perfection as any song listing on a compilation I've ever seen. Five pieces of gauzy, otherworldly loveliness by artists like ISAN, Galaktlan, Am-boy, Mind Over Midi, and Wildach Sonnerkraut, containing ethereal atmospherics and chiming, music box melodies. The rest of the compilation is also good, with the middle part containing some slightly less haunting, brighter sounding IDM tracks by IJO and Norman Fairbanks, and some deeper ambient tracks by artists like Yagya and Tisana. Then the last part of the compilation veers back towards the same kind of fragile otherworldly beauty as the first five tracks with repeat performances by Mind over Midi and Galaktlan as well as tracks by Boc Scadet, Static, and Kiln. Sutemos doesn't release very frequently, but releases like this make it worth the wait. The music on this compilation, along with its lovely accompanying artwork and Sutemos great website reinforces that they are one of best netlabels out there.
