Subject: a work of near genius [v 2.0]
Face it, life is pretty bleak. Dwindling economy, lying politicians, racial and religious conflicts, crime, poverty, loneliness, death, foul air, polluted water, climate change, unemployment, Mc Jobs, etc.
Now one thing is to express all that fear & alienation by producing harsh dissonant noisefests and give it titles using words like FUCK, DEATH, SUCK, PISS etc, like many musicians in the Netlabel community do [thereby adding to the fucked-upness of the world]. Another thing is to somehow wrangle some beauty out of life and creating something worthwile. That is what Photophob has done with this album. In short, he has created a near-perfect piece.
The first thing I noticed is there are no weak tracks on it, only great ones. That kinda helps. I haven't really listened to much of his older work but i can't escape the notion that he has shedded the need to show off or be freaky just to be freaky and now dares to give his tracks some room and keep it spare.
A lot of the power of this album lays in the use of sounds and textures.
It also works great as a whole.
It's got a beautiful melancholic feel.
It's summer and it's still cool to listen to.
It's on the level of Digitalverein, Lackluster and Connor Kirby-Long.
Last time I checked some 30 people had dowloaded this album. Shame shame shame.
It's sweet, it's beautiful, it's free. Don't be a fool and download it with a quickness!
