Comments:
Setlist obtained from TC Base but it didn't include song titles for Mari Kimura and Henry Kaiser.
This tape was providee by Jim Richardson whotold me:
My brother was here for a visit for Christmas. For reasons unclear, he has all kinds of fun cleaning my garage when he's here. This time he found a concert I dup'ed right from the master. It's Tom Constanten and Henry Kaiser at a small private college near LA on Jan 23 1993. Appears to be 1 and 1/2 90 min Maxell XL II, no dolby or any *censored* since I wanted to keep it pure. I got the college to let me make it from their archived recording a few days after it happened, by telling them TC wanted one. He did, as it happened, after I wrote and asked him, I sent him a copy.
They are in their plastic cases, maybe played twice plus two more times to copy way back then. They might not be any good anymore, but nobody's tampered with them for 20 years or so, and they were pristine at the time. It doesn't circulate, and the details are minimal, but Kaiser was kinda making a name as a guitarist at that time. It was a cool show.
Think about it; it's good if you like TC at that time (his book had just come out "Between Rock and a Hard Place", so that might be why he was touring.
A excert from Mari Kimura's bio on her website:
Mari Kimura is at the forefront of violinists who are extending the technical and expressive capabilities of the instrument. As a performer, composer, and researcher, she has opened up new sonic worlds for the violin. Notably, she has mastered the production of pitches that sound up to an octave below the violin’s lowest string without retuning. This technique, which she calls Subharmonics, has earned Mari considerable renown in the concert music world and beyond. She is also a pioneer in the field of interactive computer music. At the same time, she has earned international acclaim as a soloist and recitalist in both standard and contemporary repertoire.
NB: This technique, which she calls Subharmonics, appears to have been invented after the date of this concert.
My thanks to Jim Richardson for providing his tapes and John Bleich for the transfer.
