I read something on IMDB about how the person hated the movie but I enjoyed it. You got to have a story with a group of famous actors, all in one film. :)

This movie confused me at first. I turned to another movie after seeing the two stooges at the art studio. I just didn't appreciate their silliness and so I lost out until now that I tried it again to see what it was all about. Well, it was very interesting a large assortment of characters and to the extreme end of hellariousness, all the performers were top notch and changed my frown into a grin. Melloncholly turns gleeful. I liked the black tap dancer, the wacky short girl and big tall dancers, the hick with the clarinett, etc. etc. This is total entertainment and the creator has a terrific sense of humor. Boy O Boy!

I enjoyed this movie so much! Anytime a movie can give the pleasure of laughing out loud and chuckling along with the show - I'm happy.
The reviews already written are informative and well worth a read. I was wondering about all the young beauties in the beginning scenes.
I will recommend this movie to friends and for sure, come back to watch again.

The opening scenes of the film reveal Howard Hughes "contract girls", young starlets who after spending time with Mr. Hughes landed a short term contract with the studio. Long before Hugh Hefner and the GIRLS NEXT DOOR series, Hughes gathered quite a harem of women, though they didn't all live together.
Richard Arlen had been a major star at Paramount, and in the silent days had been in the great film WINGS about WW 1 air pilots. In real life he had joined the RAF in Canada and actually fought in the air. Paramount dropped him and one presumes Hughes liked the idea of having a fellow plane enthusiast around.
Ellen Drew was a terrific actress who got a bum deal from Hollywood. Discovered by William Demarest the actor who also worked as an agent, she was placed under a $1000 a week contract. Quite a leap up for a girl who had never seen more than $20 a week salary. Her husband, however, was anti- Hitler before the war broke out and she began to work on various causes. Paramount did not like this as Germany was still distributing their movies.
She was given a walk on part in a film as punishment and she refused to do it. Placed on a 7 month probation she went overseas to be with her husband who by this time was fighting in the war. He became the first American to bomb Berlin on a British plane and that made headlines world wide. By the time she returned to Hollywood, Paramount dropped her. Called into 20th Century Fox a meeting with Darryl Zanuck collapsed when he tried to make moves on her and she collapsed into laughter.
She had been loaned out to RKO before as punishment by Paramount, Hughes respected her husband and her and gave her a contract. So she ends up in this film.
Dave Fleischer had left the shorts biz to enter into features. He would still be remebered more for POPEYE and BETTY BOOP than his feature work.
The real joy of this film is the vaudeville, musical novelty and burlesque comedians in the film.
Note- you will see there are almost no young men in this film, not even as actors. In 1944 the draft hit men up to their mid- 40's. In America during the war it was not uncommon to see girls in their 20's with much older men. Thus the scene in the restaurant with the older man and young hottie.

Plain fun. Dave Fleischer, brother of Max Fleischer, whose Segar studios produced Popeye cartoons among others, is the associate producer on this film and it shows. I also mention it because there is a Popeye cartoon that parodies this film wherein Peewee won't quit crying, analogous to Phineas in this film. Popeye and Bluto go on a cartoon spree to try and get Peewee to stop bawling and proceed to perform an entertainment bonanza like this film is (best guess at the obvious title name for the Popeye cartoon is "That's my Peewee", I wish I had said that only once in my lifetime, and while it is a bawdy title, this film: That's My Baby, has nothing off color about it at all). This film does the setup and then proceeds to very nicely segue' from entertainment bit to entertainment bit, and includes a nice sentimental storyline that has more than a single linear plot, poignant because of the marriage of a love story to the story of lost family. Notice the obvious early product placement of a certain well known soda bottle on the bar. A great quick vignette on the process and photographic setup it takes to make cartoons right before your eyes, look for it, it goes by quick. Another quicky to look for: watch the guy's bowtie juggle up and down from his Adam's Apple bobbing behind it. Cool classical and boogie woogie piano, soft show tap dancing, breakdancing, lots of Spike Jones type schtick orchestrations, wonderful russian and latin music and singing, and some Three Stooges-esgue gag guys. Get the popcorn and condiments out and pull the plug on the PC, MAC, or cell phone and don't let yourself be interupted. It's a jam.

At first I thought, "What a crummy little movie."
But I keep coming back to watch all those little acts that are good.

I was amazed several times by this film. It was both creative and entertaining. I swear Pigmeat the butler created break dancing. There is a man who makes "pin-less" dresses out of swaths of material that are a fashionista's dream. So many neat and interesting things going on in this movie.
