Subject: Well.
It's impressive the "technology" shown in this movie isn't laughable (as is in most other sci-fi movies from that area).

But, apart from that, I found the movie to be boring. Perhaps it's only me. I give it a single star.

Subject: Cheesy but watchable
I bought this DVD on a dollar rack. The movie was actually ahead of its time in some respects such as the casting; minorities were not only in the 'star' casting (and I use the word 'star' VERY loosely) but also in the background players, with no mention of race. Otherwise, the special effects are bad (when they drop to normal gravity after floating in the ship, they actually are squatting and then stand up...you can get those little tidbits on the dvd), the dubbing is Ha Ha, the dialogue is laughable (after refusing the advance of an old lover, the woman says "there will be no room for excess baggage" onboard the ship, or words to that effect) but you know what, I still watch it! So I'm gonna give it a 3 star.

Subject: Lovely moustache!
At about 13:10 there is a close-up of the newscaster lady... she has a moustache that rivals that of any of the 3 Musketeers.

Subject: What's going on here?
Yesterday i downloaded the 2 gig file and the video didn't work so I download the 342 meg and the audio doesn't work. So now i am trying the ipod version. Maybe it will work. I really would like to eventually see this movie again.

Subject: Don't bother with the 2GB
The so-called "ipod" version is about as good as one might expect. Some people have funny ideas about how films should be encoded. If you re-encode this into something usable such as XviD, you should note that the aspect needs to be corrected: 640x480 vs existing 630x480. Who would do a thing like that?

The film needs to be viewed in the context of when and where it was made. Comparing it to modern films would just make it look like a cheese-fest. It's actually pretty imaginatively done and was ahead of its time in a lot of ways.

I am a fan of grade B sci fi movies and this one is no exception. Although the special effects by today's standards is very poor and the acting stiff it's still worth a watch. The shadows of the Venusians on the rocks is a nice touch because you can see what they looked like without resorting to the same old " how creepy can we make the aliens look" routine. Thanks for this movie and I'm sure I'll watch it again.
