Subject: A fun movie that begs for a remake on film or stage.
This is a fun "old dark house" movie about a cast of actors who decide to put on a production of their play in a creepy mansion while a famous producer and his assistant are there under the belief that the murder mystery play is real.
However, a murder DOES take place and the cast has to figure out what's happening while the producer and his assistant believe the cast is still putting on a grand act.
The ending is a little weak, but it's a fun film. I'm surprised it hasn't been remade as a stage play if nothing else.

It was a nice little diversion. I love the old dark house mysteres and I am always on the lookout for them. This one had kind of a mixed-up plot, but Johnny Arthur is great in it and has some pretty funny lines.
There is a lot of double entendre humor about Homer (Mr. Arthur's character)and his boss that reminds me of the some of Mae West's zingers in her films.

Richard Carle and Johnny Arthur and the Union Clock, Spencer Charters as the guard, and all the others. Acting, set, direction, all well worth a watch. Can't wait to see The Ghost Talks, the spoof of this movie.

Great acting, and the actors lead the story, Packs a whole story in to just over an hour,Just shows that it can be done on a modest budget.I'd reccomend this movie to any one... more of the same please.

The movie starts with a writer driving a play producer and his assistant to his home to present a play he has written. Road conditions force them to abandon their plan and to take refuge at a nearby house this dark and stormy night. Little do the writer's passengers realize that this is his plan.
The actors awaiting them proceed with the play. The obviously gay couple, absorbed with their current predicament, none the wiser. However, the plan soon starts to unravel.
This is the best 'Old House' mystery I've found so far here at IA. Lots of humor, a fast-enough pace, a homicidal maniac and disappearing actors keep it entertaining.
The dialog seems stilted at times, but this may be due to the movie's age.

This is a good movie. It's not really scary by today's standards, but there are some suspenseful moments (well, if you're watching this at 5am or something). The actors are great, the dialogue is fun, there are even quite a few jokes that work well. Homer, the secretary, is by far the best most enjoyable.
The 256kbit mpeg4 video's quality isn't all that great. the movie has scratches and specks - as can be expected - but the added compression artifacts reasult in an image quality that is pretty unwatchable. Unless you intend to put this on a mobile device you should grab the MPEG1 version.
At any rate, I really enjoyed this movie. It's easy fun, it's free, and I recommend that you check this out.

No offence meant but all things considered it was had to believe this was an American and not an English film. The style, costumes, setting and giggling humor are very English.

I loved this show. It has all the secret panels in the walls, eyes from a picture some nasty guy watches folks in the den from. People being snatched from beds and closets. All this brings back those beautiful memories of when I was a kid and got the begeebies scared out of me watching these kinds of shows. Good show for kids...and me.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Ghost Walks is a nifty little mystery with a great twist, snappy dialog, and best of all a pansy played to the twittery hilt by character actor Johnny Arthur which never demeans or denigrates his character. Mr. Arthur is great in his role of Homer Erskine bringing great comic relief as the secretary of the Broadway producer Herman Wood, played by another great character actor Richard Carle.
They play off of each other superbly.
Although the acceptable words of the time sissy and cream puff are used to describe the character of Homer, it is never mean spirited or meant as denigration, and are not spoken by the manly males of the film but by his employer, who fires and rehires him every other scene and who displays an almost exasperated affection for his devoted employee.
There is a great scene where Homer tells his boss that he has devoted the best years of his life to him and has been everything but a mother to him.
The mystery angle of the film is very entertaining, and the twist at the end might just leave you in stitches.
For a low budget poverty row picture, this film has superb set decoration and great costuming.
Director Frank Strayer ably handles his cast and this film holds together much better than some of his other low budget mystery attempts, but he had a great script to work with and some wonderful actors to carry it through.
This film is a must see for devotees of poverty row films, old dark house mysteries (they actually managed to work in the lines "It was a dark and stormy night)and it has the added bonus of being an early representation of a gay character in film where nothing bad happens to them in the end.
