I have several shows from these guys in Chicago, including one with a couple bits of banter about how much they love the place. With the way they play when they're there, you've gotta believe 'em. The first set on this one is a nice bouncy showcase for most of the material on the new album (which, by the way, is very good). The band does a remarkable job of sustaining a sense of energy through some of the more mid-tempo cuts later in the set, check out the updated arrangement on Not Fit; kind of like recent versions of Rattlin' or Can't Get High with more of a driving rhythm than in the past. Second set is pretty hot throughout, and Jezebel throws down as always. Cool guest spot including a slick move from Piss it Away into Criminal Intent followed by a solid Stormcloud, which seems to have come into its own with Reed in the band. Garden III encore closer to finish up is a great version, even for a standard song, and includes a nifty outro jam.
The sound is comparable to a lot of the favorably rated stuff around here, albeit a notch below the inimitable Cogswell recordings. There are some pops in a few spots, especially the beginning of Let Us Go, I think. Nothing that isn't worth dealing with. Great show and a fine portrait of the band where they are right now. Especially recommended for people less familiar with the contemporary material as this show is far from a classic hits list. I'm giving it five to balance the rating to four and a half, which is probably about right - nine out of ten.

Wow great show, the second set is just smokin. Tons of jammin throughout, one of the best shows of the year imo. The show is a 5 and the sound a 4.
