Good intentions which turned out to be a nightmare for the social fabric of the United States.

...Doesn't the fact that it's Universal make it International...?

I had no idea that they still had newsreels in the 60's. I would have thought that they would have been discontinued by the 50's when television took over the news.

i enjoyed LBJs first state of the union address as juxtaposition to current era of other presidents state of the union addresses.
i was blown away by lbj talking about "a war on poverty "
imagine a president now like say Clinton or bush talking about a "war on poverty"
that would never happen. it shows a era where the poor were actually thought about as people and talked about like they exist.
this is a great insight into 60s social democrat politics

Well, back to the beginning of the list as far as reviewing (which is fine). This is a Universal newsreel which features LBJ's first state of the union address, which is fascinating as we get a glimpse of the preparation it goes into it (24 speech writers!), after that we see a rare opening of the Berlin Wall for a brief time so that visitors can visit east/west germany. I never knew they hadf those provisions in there in the first place. Finally, we end it of course, with Barrel Jumping! I am not sure anyone has competitions for that anymore (last I saw BJ was in the 70's) so it was great to see it again. As a matter of fact, all of this was fascinating to watch.
