AT 4 PM (Pacific WAR time) President Truman announced the surrender of Japan. Spontaneous demonstrations broke out in San Framcisco. All 30 Sirens were sounded and thousands of people ran into the streets. Ticker tape and shredded telephone books were thrown from windows

Subject: Wow!
This amateur film was obviously taken just right after the Japanese surrenders, and the jubilatious celebrations on the streets of everytown America (In this instance, it looks to me like San Fransisco). We first see a flurry of newspaper headlines, then some tickertape flying in the air. We then realize what has just happened. This amateurish footage has not only people hanging out of their cars celebrating (man, things don't change..) but also, has a negative side to it, as we see vandalism and looting! In 1941! We end it, of course, with a parade. A BIG one, with lots of marching soldiers, bands and amazing floats. Quite a historical document. A must see!
