With a wink and a chuckle, Carpenter John (a moniker based on Jon 7's occasional profession) presents a gentle in-joke amongst his netlabel friends. Despite its play on words, "Variable" is a nice piece of music in its own right. The emphasis is more ambient pads, and there's a clean, open sound to it, and while it floats long like a drone piece there are evolving melodies throughout it.
Interestingly, there aren't any plans to make "Variable" a series, it was just an enjoyable diversion, but you never can tell.
