At long last comes the Timetheory debut album by Rezkar, who was a major player in the Jon7.net Microlabel family, and whose LP "Inside the Blue Tube" has the distinction of being the highest consistently downloaded release on that label.
"Cyberman" languished on the shelf at TTHQ, was lost and then found again twice, and subjected to months of delays while a companion album was waiting to be sent. Then one day, there were no valid excuses and the album got released.
The concept of "Cyberman" stems from one suggested by "Inside the Blue Tube", the feeling of being inside a video game. "Cyberman" in this case is the game, named after its main character, and each track on this album is a part of that game, with the music reflecting the actions and challenges the character faces in each level.
What we have here is a unique sounding recording in a field where so much electronic dance music has come to sound the same. What creates this uniqueness is that there is no one genre that these tracks fit under. It successfully blends elements of many styles into something that really just sounds like itself. Where house and techno are supposed to stand apart, here they stand together. Wherever deep and minimal styles of house may feud, on this album the elements of repetition and melody work hand in hand to create an evolving momentum. Rezkar's penchant for quirky melodies is evident in many places through this release, and it's well-used in light of the album's concept.
