When Jon 7 first met Andreas Niegl (Given Willingly) online, the first project they discussed was a split release, and in fittingly contrary style, it was the last of the GW albums to be released. However Jon and Andreas are proud to present you with this split, or perhaps it could better be described as a double feature.
"As the Oceans Break Asunder" is somewhat fantastical sound story, telling of sea-monsters in a way that resembles some modernized Viking tale. The tracks are full of instrumentation that harmonizes in parts and clashes at others, but keeps the forward momentum going, until finally reaching the title track, a rebellious piece of guitar-driven post-rock that brings the final scene to a climax.
"Pistols at an Inquisition" is Jon 7's first, possibly only, foray into what he described as "digital free jazz". The opening track, takes an innocent melody and forces it to do an awkward striptease, and then the main body of the work begins. Using fractal MIDI and a number of various processes, and intertwined array of splintering melodies arrange into free electronic jazz that sounds as though it is almost fighting its way forward. It was Jon 7's attempt to replicate, in his mind, a bit of GW's style. Whether it succeeded of not is up to the listener.
