Timetheory label-head Jon 7 heard a sound in his head one day that he couldn't shake and set about creating some rough sketches to flesh out the idea. Then later he was transported off to a rat farm, given some highly electric lemonade and left to stare up into the night sky. Soon thereafter he was introduced to some new friends who were planning a psy-trance party and he played them his sketches, which impressed them enough to encourage him to create several more tracks in his homemade psy-trance style for their party.
The result is this mix of those tracks. Jon 7 had never worked in psy-trance before, but knew enough about it to put his unique twist on the (sometimes overly formulaic) formula. The tracks in this mix maintain the fast tempos and high energy levels of psychedelic trance, but veer off into a territory that is grungier and strobing, as if Stereolab and MBV had worked together to make psy-trance.
Though some releases on Timetheory have been of a more techno bent, this one dives in headfirst and doesn't look back. Whether Jon 7 will continue with more music in this style remains to be seen, but on this occasion it fulfills some potential from his earlier days of production.
