Alexander Jannink (aka Vanilla Sandro) has been one of Jon 7's strongest allies for several years, and after a few successful collaborations and releases on Jon7.net Microlabel, Alex told Jon 7 he was working on an ambitious full-length album entitled "Nachtkind". The album's construction took over a year, went through several track lineup changes, and then took almost another year to be mastered and delivered. That's how it is sometimes in the netlabel world, usually known for its instant release gratification.
It was worth the wait. The combination of deep thumping european-style minimal tracks, and extended ambient exercises is a satisfying listen. Alex considers this release to be an autobiographical one, recounting the dark but romanticizable aspects of life out in the streets and alleys where he has lived. The lands never sound as nether as they do here. "Nachtkind" is a 21st century interpretation of the style of enlightenment-through-excess that has laways been linked to the art movements of Europe in the past two centuries. Don't cut that ear off, you'll need it for the headphones.
