Another "nomadic" release on AudioTong. This time from Trever Hagen, an American currently living in Budapest. In fact, if you've ever been to this city, you will find something reminiscent of its atmosphere in this music. And if you haven't been there, you definitely should go.
But back to the release here. Dirty Maps is a collection of eleven semi-improvised tracks for trumpet and electronics. Trever's education in jazz can be heard on most of them and it only adds more flavour to these pieces.
He uses a trumpet, laptop and a midi controller. Add to this a bunch of loops and samples, vocals and field recordings, and you'll more or less know the ingredients. But the result is quite impressive.
Very spacious, a bit melancholic, delicate, moody and smart music, perfect for both, rainy afternoons and starry nights. Too poetic description? Maybe. But just give it a listen and add your own comment below if you find better words to describe it.
