Reviewer:footyfoot - - January 8, 2010 Subject: Cirque du Tabac! This one starts slow- like a lot of the other BAT flicks I've watched so far, you have to endure a lot of leader before you get to the meat of the matter. So advance past the blue screen to 00:30 for the amusing demonstration of how Barclay's 'Actron Filter' gives your palate an all-over roasting, rather than just sending that money shot of sweet sweet nicotine right down the windpipe like the other brands with their "thin jet" of smoke. Barclay is not just some Wham-Bam-Thank-You-Ma'am smoke: it lingers! Then some dude starts blabbering on about ISO smoke-measuring standards for a bit and weasels around with the words about warnings on packages... BOOORING! Ditch the loser- advance to 7:34, it's where the flavor is! Apparently, someone with way too much corporate ad money at their command watched Amadeus a few too many times, then hired a few of their out of work trapeze artist friends in order to give the be-all and end-all of cigarette promotional events. You won't even know it involves cigarettes until the dude with with white Napoleon headgear yanks the tarps off some huge boxy objects occupying part of the stage! At 11:03, you get cigarette spacecraft deploying a sort of Terminator ripoff Baclays deliveryman into a parking structure, where he eludes the shadowy forces of those who would deny the Benelux region their Barclays. He's a polite and dutiful kinda Terminator, though; he says please and thank you, and always makes sure the counter display is stocked according to the guide. The ripoff bits are priceless, and include several 'display' panel views from videoo games of the time period, including substantial chunks of Dragon's Lair! But wait- there's MORE! At 15:33, it cuts to some weird footage of a couple of odd music-box type dolls doing their endlessly repeating kind of thing to a music-box song- and there is NO branding or anything even remotely resembling an advertisement for any kind of product. The dolls are the stuff of nightmares; one has a weird crimson headdress with leaflike things radiating off of it, the other had a weird black turban-like shape, and they both sit on what looks like a coffin. Maybe this is raw footage that got onto the tape before the thing got copied for the litigation? No telling, but just for that random bit alone, I rate this thing 5 stars, despite the slow start.
