top-40.orgSounds and images from Crete [top01] (September 29, 2008)

It's an audio album, download hi-res photo galleries for "Sounds and images from Crete" here: top.01 (photos)

One of the most amazing things, invented in experimental music so far are field recordings, of course. We loved them. We're totally crazy about them! You can find an amazing recordings from all over the world on the Internet, on the CD's, LP's, minidisks, flexi's and all other medias to provide your ears, minds, memory and imagination with an acoustical movies – more lucid and breathtaking than any videos and motions.

And of course the even more exciting thing is to make such recordings by yourself! Anywhere you go, you can engrave your surroundings with a simple recorder and later have an amazing virtual trip – the sounds are awakening your memory, and with an audio-reports of your past journeys you can "see" even some new things as long as your brain remembers everything you ever saw, and your consciousness - only a few of it.

Now you're about to enjoy the sequel-album for "Sounds and images from Eupatoria" (top32), created in 2002. This time you'll be acoustically teleported to the sunny Greek island Crete, where we spent an unforgettable week in the summer of 2008. We tried really hard not only to make a report from our trip, but to reproduce the atmosphere of the amazing places, where we've been.

Apart from film/digital camera and camcoder, we were equipped with a minidisk and microphone, so we recorded all surrounding sounds and acoustic environment, and as an additional sources for the album we used an experiments with contact microphone and samples of a Greek voice, extracted from a CD we bought on sale in the local supermarket. All liner notes are in Greek language, so unfortunately, the only credits we can provide you are the link to the label's website: http://lyra.gr.

We don't have a chance to include everything we want in one album, so en extra recording with lovely sounds of breaking waves is available as a separate release "Ordinary sounds of the sea" at Quietzone netlabel alongside with a DVD, filmed during this journey. Watching the beautiful seascapes with Quietzone music will relax and calm down your mind, which is utterly important in our hard times.

So many words about this record are left unsaid, but what more can we say? Open your ears, and you will have your own personal and fantastic journey to Crete - the best way to spend a winter evening ever.
