Subject: Decent recording of a lacklustre show.
Subject: Decent recording of a lacklustre show.
The first encore is supposedly missing on this recording, but I wouldn't be surprised if the band just cut the show short skipping 1979 and XYU. Things start off well at this show, with the band fresh from two good gigs to start the tour with. However, about midway through the performance gets noticeably sluggish and the band end up playing Muzzle to close the first set to apologize for being so "boring". Billy's message to the audience is surprisingly candid: "Usually it's us who complain about the audience, but tonight you should complain about us. Thank you for being so great."
The show ends with a trio of By Starlight, Silverfuck and the first full performance of Drown since 1994. In all fairness, the show really isn't that bad. Silverfuck has some good moments before coming to what seems like a completely random stop, and most of the other songs are played well. The version of Drown, however, is a disappointment. Billy's vocal delivery comes off as if he's fighting to stay awake, and the song also comes to a sudden stop after the band move into the riff from Hummer. Strange ending for the show. Maybe it was just the high altitude of the city of Denver getting the better of the band?
