Subject: What The Hell Is Wrong With You People?

Ok, seriously. What the hell is wrong with you people? People died as a result of this tragedy. As you watch the footage, you are watching lives end. And what has this turned into? A series of pointless religious and political arguments? You should all be ashamed of yourselves. Even the people who claim to see this event for what it was still dip into their religious beliefs, as if it fucking mattered at all! Wise up, would you please? We're never going to get through life as a species if we turn everything into a fucking debate! I'm sick of seeing and hearing people argue over the implications of disasters like this! It doesn't matter what you believe was the cause: IT HAPPENED AND THERE'S NOTHING YOU CAN SAY THAT'LL TAKE AWAY FROM THE REALITY OF IT! Stop being so self-righteous and just shut the hell up!

Subject: People are very stupid these days

If you watch the begining of this video there are loads of people just standing on the beach watching this thing come towards them! How stupid can people get?!?!? This is why so many people died! They just stood there but if they ran for safety they could have been safe and saved their lives.

Also about God making this happen. I dont believe in God at all and i dont believe he done this. To be honest if he did do this he would have done it a very long time ago or at least in a country like USA or Europe i say that because where the Tsunami struck they were all very religous and the USA and Europe have very mixed ideas. Sorry if you dont get what im trying to say but i tried to explain it as best as i could.

I was there with my wife on my Honeymoon and the media as always paints a somwhat bland vision of what happend.

Its like seeing but not smelling, i was in hospital for 10 days with an infection to my left leg , several opperations etc.

People who write blogs should investigate in detail before passing comment,
E.g check out the national geographic web site and you'll see the sysmic activity that occures in this area.

Subject: Jesus Christ Almighty!

The victims of this event, believers and non believers alike, ended up in the same place-- face down in the water. Period. I don't think that footage like this is reviewable in the cinematic sense; but let's try-- I hated like hell to see it and wouldn't want to see it again. Let's hope the sequel is waaaaay in the future.

Subject: An appeal to reason

First, a review of the film itself:

Given that it was unplanned, a candid accidental finding from what looks like a vacation video, rather than a scripted film, the cinematography is remarkably good. The witness does a good job documenting the catastrophic event as it unfolded.

He was clearly caught off guard and was not expecting what he saw. It would have been helpful if he could have included some sort of commentary, but understandably, he was probably not at the time thinking about chronicling a major news event so much as experiencing the sheer disbelief in person that so many of us could only undergo from a distance.

And now, an appeal to reason:

I will avoid my own opinion on the matter of God, but suffice it to say, if one does believe, one must have a belief system that is internally consistant. One cannot believe in both an all good and an all powerful God, unless one either denies that there is misfortune in the world, which is clearly not the case, one produces a system to account for the imperfections in a manner that makes sense (beyond merely having a Satanic foil to God, which fails to solve the infinitely powerful & infinitely good / existance of evil paradox), or one admits that the theological system is a working model that is incomplete, and therefore not a perfect description of the cosmos.

To advocate otherwise is to defy logic and reason.

To reassure ervinmagic, it is about impossible that American use of explosives caused the 9.0 earthquake that caused the tsunami. There has been no evidence of an explosion or radiation from the nuclear blast needed off the shore of Indonesia to produce such a force. So far, I've yet to hear any conspiracy theorists confabulate such a theory.

That said, I do agree that my country (I'm also American) has mis-managed the pursuit of terrorists. While Saddam Hussein was a monster, the justifications for war were fabricated, and the invasion of Iraq diverts us away from the pursuit of terrorists and terrorist parties who are truely responsible for the 9/11 attacks. Instead of invading Iraq, we should have concentrated on invading, occupying, and then rebuilding Afghanistan. While that would have left a lot of people suffering under Hussein, it would have avoided dividing our forces, alienating us from most of the free world, and further motivating the anti-American sentiments in the Middle East.

If Bush were true to his principles of bringing justice, concentrating on Afghanistan would have been more logical, and from there working with the more civilized nations of the Middle East, like Qatar and Kuwait, along-side the United Nations. We could then pressure places like Saudi Arabia to consider revising their poor stances on human rights, particularly female equality. In so doing, we could win over support for our philosophies and principles, and show that our ideologies are valid.

I question, however, the concept of "justice." It smacks too much of revenge. The "eye for an eye" is the same philosophy advocated by the radicals. And, there are too many elements of the Conservative political movement that contain the same religious fanaticism and extremism as their Islamic counterparts, the only difference being that we still have the Constitution--at least for now.

Please forgive my contributing to the continuing off-topic thread that draws attention away from the film itself and the event it chronicles.

people, it seems you have forgoten that God can do what He wants. you just cant say "God wouldnt do this or God wouldnt do something like this." you can not limit God. the fact is that He will do whatever He wants. He doesnt play dice. and when He acts, chance does not play a role in the physical events that happen on earth.

Do you think anybody believes any of that crap you wrote? Not only were you nowhere near the tsunami, but you never had a fiancee (like anyone would go out with you to begin with), you never served in Iraq (bock, bock, bock!) and you probably aren't even a U.S. citizen to begin with (your post reeks of Canada). To all those before me,

I am formally apologizing for all the pain I have caused in this world. What has happened in the past few months is what some call Karma. Well you know this is a real karma kickback. I've been really paid back. I lost my fiance in Phuket. How stupid of me to bring her there on our honeymoon. I should have known better. This is a place yes where I have behaved badly before. Moreover, I am on leave from my tour in Iraq. What a cosmic joke now that I think of it. We were bombing the fuck out of the same tectonic fault line that has caused this massive tetonic shift, earthquake and Mad tsunami. Oh God Why!!!!!!! I can't believe I am so stupid for being led into this futile war! I formally am renouncing my country and my position in the corporate miliary monster the USA. This is BlackMagic Witchcraft they have spread through the world. I am now ready to walk this earth free from my country and into a new way of being.
See you on the other side

Subject: I can't believe this

I came on this thing to get some tsunami action, and now I keep reading all this theological and political bull crap. For the soldier who wrote last, I tip my hat for serving...but you made some mistakes as well. Give me some examples of a "pure" democracy? Never happened and never will, nothing really pure ever existed (EVER!...I don't even think Jesus was totally pure, and God either because he's a jealous God stated in many parts of the bible and jealousy isn't exactly an exemplification of purity) and probably never will...life doesn't exist in a vacuum.

The most important thing our founding fathers did was sign a declaration of freedoms. It doesn't matter what religion it came from (hence separation of church and state), as long is it was logical from a cultural future standpoint. Australia is doing pretty well economically and politically, and they're a nation founded by England's shipped out convicts, not religous puritans like ourselves (and at least they kept some of the aboriginal tribes intact...thank god for the desert).

For the god lovers, save your breath and typing fingers. Send in money for aid and leave the preaching to people who actually know what they are preaching about. It offends me when a non-believer such as myself more closely follows the tenants of Jesus than do most of his flock. At least learn his basics, don't judge and love everyone and everything, and you should do ok.

Subject: In response to Atanta1 from an American soldier serving in Iraq.

I suppose the people who write these reviews really mean no harm and certainly don't make an igorant, overt effort to bash your beliefs so stop doing it to them. To put things into perspective, think back really, really hard to the humble beginnings of this great country. Our founding fathers were ALL, yes, I said ALL Christian men of faith who imposed no beliefs on anyone. Their intense desire was freedom of religion, freedom of belief in anything you want. So that is what happens when Christians "take over politics". As for your predicted demise of our democracy, it's gone. We actually enjoy a republic form of government. Pure democracies always result in economic failure and ultimately lead to dictatorships. If you think Christians are out of touch or misguided so what? We honestly believe our message can help. These "religious" reviews weren't written to benefit the writers but the readers as far as the authors are concerned. If it didn't help you then appreciate the concern for your soul whether it necessary or not. Your responses were useless and benefitted no one. THINK MAN!!!

Subject: ALL HAVE SINNED (INCLUDING ME) AND ARE JUSTIFIED FREELY BY GOD'S GRACE

"For ALL have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace" (Romans3:23).... "although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened.. Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools and exchanged the glory of God for images made to look like mortal man and birds and animals and reptiles... They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshipped and served created things rather than the Creator" (Romans1:21-25)... ALL have sinned including me ;) and that's why I need God's grace & that's why I am a Christian.... If I don't feel I have sin and need grace, then I wouldn't be Christian...

Please don't blame the victims here. Because if you do, you will have to blame those killed in the twin towers on 9-11 and all of those who have died in all of the "record setting" disasters we have witnessed just in the past few months. I believe we are witnessing a GLOBAL wake up call. I believe Jesus is returning to this earth soon. You can read in the 3500 year old bible what you are seeing in your headlines today. It was all predicted. Scientists say that the earthquake was so strong in Indonesia, that it moved the earth from it's axis by 1 inch. Ever heard of such a thing? Me either. It's a sign. We will do well to search our own hearts & see if thetre is a message here for ALL of us. I sense that before 2005 is over we will see that this is not an isolated insodent. More signs will come, not necessarily destructive but OBVIOUS to those watching. Please hear & at least examine what I say. Your eternal future depends on it. Jesus is the ONLY escape route. You decide as 2005 continues. RESPONSE TO HART NOEKER....."If I'm wrong then you have nothing to fear". If I'm right then you have everything to lose. Jesus love you :]!

This is for those Christian conservatives that try to impose there beliefs on others. First, I am sorry for those people who lost there lives in the tragedy. That is what we should be focusing on...not religon. We are you people going to wake up and start to think outside the box. We have been killing each other for thousands of years in the name of religion. HOW STUPID IS THAT!! I personally believe in a higher power and I also believe in prayer/faith. All these Jesus stuff, the bible, all religions were made up by man. It is shame that we humans are still too stupid to think for ourselves. Jesus is not coming to this earth so forget it. I think it is sad that some of you live your whole lives biding by God's(man's) rules.
Also on another note. You Christians are trying to impose your political power on us in the United States. The left wingers will never let it happen. If we let you guys take over we would be a theocracy like Iran. Our rights would be gone and the democracy that we have will be gone. Wake up and start thinking outside the box.

There's no such thing as god. At least not the one they brainwash children about in institutions that are complicite with things like child rape and the Holocaust. The term I would use to describe what is going on inside REDY4JESUS's head is cognitive disonence; whereby, in the face of logic and reason, an individual will desperately cling to whatever pathetic emotional justification for their warped ideology, because to re-evaluate their views would cause them emotional harm. It's just a fancy way of describing denial, really.

Just two observations here -- one) that in this video clip you can see the man climbing onto the the restaurant ledge where another amazing clip was filmed from the inside while being flooded (in case no one noticed) close to where that poor elderly European couple was lost and

two) God allows tsunamis -- He doesn't create them. They are natural. He also allows us to discover and use science. When we neglect to do that, it's not HIS fault. Earthquakes can't be predicted but this tsunamis can, and this one was -- certain people didn't want to warn others out of fear of losing a buck (or their job, if they were wrong) during a peak tourist season.

We are ants, scratching about on the dust of the earth. Even our deepest drilling can not affect PLATE TECTONICS. This earthquake would have happened whether the earth was devoid of human life, or teeming with it. Perhaps a geology course is in order, because you obviously weren't listening in high school.

It really gives you a concept of how massive this surge of water was, and how it did so much damage without that Hollywood "wave" wiping out all in it's path.
