Subject: fanatics gone overboard
The earthquake was not caused by anything that someone did. The fault has been doing what it does for millions of years. Nothing new here. All the people in the world and all the things they do are insignificant compared to plate tectonics.
If the tsunami is a message from God then what exactly does it mean? The tsunami mostly killed people who were weak swimmers...like children. Why would God kill children from Banda Aceh to make a point about the USA? Only idiots kill people to make a point. I doubt God is an idiot.

Subject: What was he thinking?
The movie was spectacular but there's only one problem. If this guy had any idea what was going on there, he would have been long gone at the sight of the ominous wave coming in and would have took off as fast as he could inland.
Then when the wave hits they think it's funny. (You can hear laughter in the background!) It isn't until the water keeps coming that they finally realize that something really bad is happening.
The tsunami disaster was a horrible disaster amplified by human ignorance. Maybe some good will come from it in the form of early warning systems and proper education about what the damage a tsunami can do.

Subject: I was there
I saw the Tsunami results first hand. I joined a group of Christians in Pang Nga helping those who lost there homes. I spent my first day there loading dead bodies in trucks. I was struck, shocked, by the amount of death and was reminded of the curse. I smelled the curse, I handled it with my own hands. The earth was never supposed to be like this. God created a perfect world where we were supposed to live forever. Because of the "fall" of man, the curse came and everything changed.. even nature. If you read the last book of the bible, and the last couple chapters. you will see that all will be restored, that is God's goal. That is why Jesus came. God's heart grieves over the dead much more than I do. He has done everything to make a way to restore everything. There will be a new heaven and earth, perfect in every way. I must be perfect also to enter. That is impossible as hard as I try. That is why Jesus came to offer us forgiveness through his death and resurrection.
Great work continues to go on in the hardest hit areas of the Tsunami. You will find that mostly it is Christians doing the work, and you will find many turning to Christ because of their love in action. Jesus brings love and hope.
In this film you see that we as people, expect to live forever. It is such a shock when a disaster happens. Continue to support the families and loved ones of these victims if you have the resources.

Patrick, I have seen your post and I'm not sure if you are serious or just stupid. You claim to have renounced the USA as your country. Have you left? What is your hometown? You claim to have served in Iraq. Which unit? You claim to have been in the Army. What was your MOS and rank? It's easy to espouse your views here and claim such connections but I think you are full of BS or like I said, stupid. And read up on continental subduction zones and tectonic migration before making outrageous claims. Idiot.

another earthquake in indonesia...after shocks and tectonic plate shifts the result of recent bombing in iraq an afghanistan
The Bush Bombs in Iraq and Afghanistan were like mini quakes on the arabian tectonic plate . Even after the bombs stopped there were earthquakes in Afghanistan. These small shifts have trigged small earthquakes and shifts in tectonic plates that are connected to the indian ocean plate. These small shifts were enough to send us a wonderful gift for Xmas. A full blown Tsunami in the indian ocean. Wow Thank-you Uncle Sam and Uncle Bush for a wonderful Christmas from Hell. Maybe The Canary Islands can send you one next Xmas right into the White house.

To Gnarled,
to say religion is the worst thing to happen to mankind is kind of like saying that the sun is the worst thing to happen to plants. Most people that I personally know use religion in a good way. It serves as a moral, pyschological and spiritual compass to help them get through the misery and drab of human life. I'm not a personal follower of any religion, but I personally think the worst thing to happen to mankind is power and fear.
Power is a corruptor. Look at the Inquisitions and Nazi, Germany. Power corrupted religious leaders and zelots and it corrupted a tyrrannical political dictator with a lot of influence and clout. Once these people gained the power, they were afriad to lose it and did whatever they could to preserve it.
To all the god lovers; Jesus, Mohommed, Buddha, etc. all these teachers pretty much realized the same thing; the corruptive force of human nature. Without them, we'd still be banging each other over the head with clubs because it enabled us a socio-political umbrella of protection under which to grow and prosper. But the days of spouting religion in a communal forum and hoping to lure someone into your flock might be numbered. Why don't you guys just be content with your own personal salvation and the leave the rest of us to fend for ourselves. Thanks and give money to tsunami aid.

Subject: Tsunamis are the result of the fall of man, and ALL including Christians will suffer troubles in this life
#1. Tsunamis and "natural" disasters are a result of the Fall of man. When God created us and the earth, there was originally no "natural" disasters.
But because God gave man free will to choose whether to follow Him, instead of making man like a robot just so man the robot would obey Him, and man chose to fall away from God, the result of sin was consequences.
IN A SENSE, GOD ALLOWED THE DISASTER (BECAUSE HE IS IN CONTROL OF EVERYTHING) BUT HE DIDN'T CAUSE IT.
#2. "ALL have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace through Jesus" (Romans3:23).... ALL have sinned including me ;) and that's why I need God's grace & that's why I am a Christian.... If I don't feel I have sin and need grace, then I wouldn't be Christian :)
# 2. "He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good." (Matt5:45)
God did not promise that Christians will never have face crisis in life.
If that were so, Stephen and Paul in the book of Acts would not have suffered so far. They were tortured and went cold & without sleep in bad weather. Even Jesus suffered, was abused and spat on & mocked by the people He loves. And that not for his own sin (for He was God in person and could not sin) but He suffered for us.
# 4. Jesus said : "IN THIS WORLD YOU WILL HAVE TROUBLE. BUT TAKE HEART FOR I HAVE OVERCOME THE WORLD."

Subject: Believing is Seeing/I've Been Saved!
Well, what can I say about all this...
First of all I like to consider myself "unaffiliated," yet if someone asks I'll call myself a Secular Humanist. I read an article in the NY Times a few weeks back where where you had the muslims saying the christians died because they were not muslims, the buddhists said the muslims died because they were not buddhists, the muslims said the buddhists and christians died because they did not believe in allah, etc, etc, ad nauseum.
But thats what religious thought induces- division and a predictable myopic discourse.
Religion is the cowards way. It takes courage for a person to resist implanted beliefs that just mask the truth that MOST OF US HAVE NO FUCKING CLUE WHY ANYTHING HAPPENS ANYTIME ANYWHERE.
It is my observation that religion-all of them-and dare I say even the very idea of God is the absolute worst thing to ever happen to humankind since day one. Almost all the most horrible parts of history can be directly traced back to and blamed on religion and religious thought--the rest is indirectly linked.
For those that praise religion for its so called moral contributions to the world, for every one there are easily one or two hundred thousand crippling effects.
What about this thought...
What if this GOD is actually PUNISHING the RELIGIOUS?
If the need to explain every damn thing persists, why not entertain the concept that it is YOU THE RELIGIOUS that are targeted. In the logic of the stone age fools that blabbed divine retribution for incorrect decision making in the Times article, it would make more sense to say the this God may be angry at all the lovers of the sacred security blanket and crutch that is religion.
Look, even at his best Man is still puny and weak.
Perhaps finally admitting this on a global scale could be the first step to making that so revered idea of Eden a reality.
Thank You for your time.
redy4jebus,
I just wanted to give you the Good News. I saw jebus' face on my toast this morning! it was amazing. a true revelation of the highest quality. really. then i got so excited that I knocked over my coffee and guess what? Yep, you guessed it...the virgin mary was revealed to me in the spill. oh glory! I just wanted to let you know so you could tell the faithful and perhaps convert a few more heathens to the miracle of the lord.
god bless.

Are you people serious? God? You're grown ups and you beleive in a god? Do you know what science is? How about quantum mechanics? The people that wrote all that shit down in a book 1500 years ago didn't know what continental drift was. They didn't know what molecules where. They did't fucking know what electricity was! And they sure as shit didn't understand the physics of wave action! They didn't know better but we sure should. There's no reason to be as dumb as people that thought bleeding would cure a fever. There's no such thing as a wizard that lives in the clouds or outer space or where ever that created the planet Earth. We should be in awe at the power of nature and recognize that those who died in the tsunami died in a cycle of life that includes algae and deer and coral and dogs and pigeons and eels. We're all connected and all of this crap about feeling sorry for the 150,000 that died is absurd. If you want to feel bad, feel bad for the genocide of the 150,000 in Iraq. Clusterbombs are not part of nature, I assure you.
Response to redy4jesus: I am most certainly not an athiest. I am not an agnostic nor a christian nor a buddhist. Anyone that can catagorize their spirituality with things like words does not have a clue what spirituality is. The bible was written to be taken as fiction in the first place. Is was never meant to taken literally. They are stories with morals, nothing more.
Let it go? If that isn't the pot calling the kettle black, I don't know what is.

Subject: This isn't about GOD
What a disaster. A person is standing watching the tsunami coming into shore and only when he realises that the wave is going to get him wet does he start moving. The people are laughing the whole time until of course the wave hits them aswell and then they realise - and start screaming.
This is a typical natural disaster - to do with natural forces that unfortunately can cause this kind of havoc. I would just like to confirm that this was not an act of god, and that all people who died during this disaster that were not christian will not go to hell as others have speculated.
If this person believes that the almighty GOD was the cause of this disaster what kind of GOD does he/she worship!

Subject: GOD and Gog
God exists but the whole planet was his creation. people, animals, earth dynamics. earthquakes happen because the earth, as a machine, works and is constantly shifting and re-accomodating itself. weather, temperature, magnetic field and shifts, and land movement, it all like a sort of big watch.
if you read in the bible about the part that where god lives, 1000 of our years make up one of his days, then a person that lives on Earth 70 years is only out of the presence of god about 2 hours. people come and people go. maybe some get another chance, i don't know. people come here to develop character; not to be forced into one cahole or another. however decadent life is on this planet. god will not interfere with that because people are here to live their own mortal life. God does seem to work on the machine however, and perhaps its fortunate our planet is not made by Ford. Quakes, plate shifts, volcanoes, tsunamis, and diverse weather happen everyday. either man will learn to live with it and develop a warning system (Krakatoa wasn't far from the epicenter of this quake and it wiped out 50,000 in 1883, from a tsunami), or not and die in ignorance.

I'd like to ask you something. How can you be so stupid? I mean, didn't that fuckin' prophet said that you should be aware of your sins rather than being aware of the ones of the other people? The one that is going to be in the place of eternal suffering is you, because you couldn't convert them. How could they believe in something they didn't know? The fault is yours, 'cause you didnÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂôt teach them about that fuckin' lie. And, yes, you should read more about your lie (religion), because your Jesus ordered you to convert everyone in this planet, so it was your obligation to convert them. What will you tell him when you die? "They didn't believe. Their heart was made of stone. They were stronger than me!" Fuckin' weak. Go and get a life, christians!(If a baby dies, do you think he or she will go to the place of eternal suffering?)

how can you possibly believe that just because someone never was given the opportunity to come to know christ that they're going straight to hell? and who are you to pass judgement on them? thats rediculous, and a testament to your ignorance. read up and study religion a little more. god will give those who did not find him in this life a chance to accept his teachings after death, otherwise he would not be compassionate (or omnibenevolent, another attribute of god) and would cease to be god, which obviously has not, nor will not happen.

It seems like people have just lost their minds. Instead of showing support to those who have lost their lives, they are making this into a religous or anti religous issue. Instead of trying to crdit God, man, nature, or trying to amplify the futlity of life, people need to realize that hunderds of thousands of people are gone. Families have been torn apart, and children are homeless orphans. Also, as a christian, I am ashamed at peolple saying that this is God's punishment.
