This is the first full length show that got me really into UM. I’d never heard of the band a few years back in ’07 when I grabbed this. I was scoping out a reunion trip to Chi and wondered if Biddy Milligan’s was still there. Saw a bunch of great bands there. Also Wise Fools, Cubby Bear, and the Vic. There was an online listing opf bands playing at the Vic and Umphrey’s McGee was listed. I thought, “With a name like Umphrey’s McGee – you know it’s got to be good jam.” If you get the joke- you’re admitting you age…
So popped in a web search and found out this band had the snot and jammed like a frumious bandersnatch. One on online thingy referenced this show.
If you absolutely must have long trippy Garcia like jams that ebb, flow, howl, and occasionally meander like the Colorado River – you may have to do a quick re-think. If you do punt this – you’re missing a great opportunity to catch up on a really hip band. I’m a player and these guy’s are the real deal – they bring it. Many shows later – I still love this show.
The Umphsters have matured as players in the intervening years and they have practiced much and truly honed their chops have mad skills. Dey got some real snot, dem.
For a nice big goober sample, check out the J-O > Triple Wide > GTLO medley. It’s all about fun.

This is a fantastic UM show - great setlist, great sound, and even better playing.
This show holds a special place in my heart for a couple of different reasons and is one of the better I've seen live. One of the best of 2004 - Get it!

This is one of my favorite shows from year so far. I really don't think its that dark of a show, rather a mix of styles that shows what UM is capable of on a good night. There are some heavy tunes and jams (such as padgetts, snucka III, bridgeless), some great crowd pleasers (all in time, much obliged, august, etc), great mellower jamming tunes (20 min kabump, the Haunt, etc.), some rarities and surprises (q-bert, xxxplosive, Led Zepplin Medley). Show flows well and never really lets up. All in all, a 5 star performance and a recommended download.

Lame opening song, but the rest of the show is HOT! 1st set couldn't have closed better, and the encore is incredible.
