Subject: first review- sorry for the length. NOT ENOUGH STARS
but it's a story that needs to be told.. I don't know why it's taken me so many years to become a member. All in time, i guess. In any event, this was not only the best UM I've ever seen, it was one of the most cosmic nights of my life... And if you were there and in the flow, you know exactly what I mean. It was really 3 shows in one. Beastie Boys > Bassnectar > Umphreys. Big Cypress has some seriously charged energy. One of the most sacred places on the planet, no joke.

Highlight had to be Wappy>bridgless>floor, Utopian>Mulche's. FACE MELTING.. a few hours earlier our whole group had gotten seperated from each other around sunset. Luckily I had gotten bored waiting around for The Roots to take the stage and went back to camp. A few minutes later, my buddy John B made his way back there. He was on an intense fungus experience at his first day at his first festival and was about to cry since he and our other friend, Gabe got sepearted. I've never seen anyone so relieved to find me. I decided to join the fun. Golden caps. mmmm mm. We then head over to The Beastie Boys, who played one of the most amazing shows I have ever seen. Every genre, they mastered. After the show, with our jaws on the floor, our friend Bernie comes running up to us (we must have been the last ones there and staring into space for minutes) and does this Bernie dance of celebration. We didn't know he was going to the fest. He only decided to go a few hours earlier! (luckily miami is close enough) good call bernie. The 3 of us do a zombie dance over to Bassnectar, who was utterly mind blowing. Just as I see all the people and women with glowing blue hoola hoops on stage, I begin to think this is the best party I've ever been to. A moment later he re-mixes Fight For Your Right To Party! (just about the only tune the beasties didn't play) It was as if the Beasties never ended.

As we made it to Umphreys, they were throwing down so incredibly hard. I recall having mixed feelings about them before this show. Seen some good, some bad. This show tore the roof off the place. I look around and sure enough, we find Gabe, who had gotten lost from John B hours earlier. I can't even tell you how many friends from all over the country I ran into at this show. At one point I see Bernie and Gabe in a smoke circle with two of my friends from elementary school. I introduced everyone and we all laughed at the cosmic encounter.

I thought, this is too much. Nah, It's exactly the way it's supposed to be and what popped in my head was all in time. A few minutes after that, sure enough UM was on the same page with all of us, and played "All in Time." Pretty sure I did not know the song prior to this night. of course they were in tune with us. Everything was (and is) one after all. The band, the audience, the alligators, the grass, the air, the rain, the morning dew, the wind and everything else, was all one organism taking a cosmic flight in a spaceship through the galaxy and beyond. At one point I recall seeing Bernie rip his shirt off in THE MOST blissful, animalistic fit of joy I have ever seen anyone in before or since. Just as the show ended, Terrential downpour. Monsoon type rain.

Thank you to everyone and everything who made this night the night it was. I know i'm not only speaking personally when i say it was truly one of the best nights of our lives.

nice recording. Some idiot is screaming and laughing into the mic alot.

EDIT & REPLY - I understand that tapers help the community and they often dont have their own section and have to deal with people. Drunk young idiots, however, have to learn that if you are close to the tapers section, you shut your mouth. People are rating this show based on how intense their trip was and not on the quality of this recording. As a listener one of the only ways to sift through thousands of shows is to sort by ratings. Unfortunatly now more then ever people are giving five stars if they had a good time at the show. I wrote my comment to warn others that in this recording, people close to the mic kind of get in the way of the show. I dont need to be taught the lesson, the scene newbies need to be taught the lesson.

the people of langerado had a choice that night, UM or STS9. and i think those of us that chose to indulge in UM got our faces ultimately melted

they were so on point, from teched out brain storms to classic rockin mgee.... doesn't get much better than this, the trip to Langerado was worth it because of this show alone (and the exotic Of Montreal performance)

as an audience member who couldnt control himself, i would like to apologize to the taper.. i was howling and getting all riled up as well, so i hope your endeavors weren't soiled by our excitement CHEERS

Subject: re: drunk idiot screaming
Most people who use this website probably know that we spend a lot of money and time recording these concerts with absolutely zero benefit other than being able to listen to it again later. The beauty of a true taper section is that we have our own area, away from the rest of the audience where there aren't idiots screaming into our mics and our equipment is better protected from people tripping over it. Unfortunately most touring bands don't offer this (especially at a festival) so we are left to deal with the people around us. You can't make someone stop yelling at a concert - they paid the same price for their ticket and have every right to scream as loud as they want. And in the process they ruin the recording for everyone else. I talked to the guy yelling and he apprently is a huge fan, having seen Umphrey's 50+ times, knows the band, crew, etc. He wasn't concerned about the recording since Umphrey's sells soundboards. If you enjoy FREE quality recordings without people screaming in your ear, please help us out and suggest to your friends and neighbors they move somewhere else and scream. If someone is stumbling right into our gear, help guide them around us. Ultimately YOU benefit from this as much as we do.
